Falling Slowly

Falling Slowly - *AFP Hall Of Fame*

“My daughter and I had been holding hands and she was leaning away from me and our photographer caught the perfect moment!  So the rest of us are looking fabulous while my 2 year old is crashing into the pavement!”

The Final Frontier

The Final Frontier - Behind The Awkwardness

“My daughter’s father gave his whole family space outfits for Christmas in hopes to get the family together for a photo session. I thought it was the oddest idea ever.”

Roller Derby

Roller Derby - Behind The Awkwardness

“This photo was taken in the Fall of 1966. My Dad just returned from a hunting trip with the hide & antlers of his prized 5 point bull elk. It was Saturday night and my older sister & I just had our hair rolled for church the next morning. I was obviously thrilled to have my picture taken with the stupid elk and rollers in my hair.”

Replica

Replica - Behind The Awkwardness

“My brother and sister-in-law got married about 17 years ago and my kids were asked to be in their wedding party… my son was the ring bearer, my oldest daughter was a junior bridesmaid and my youngest daughter was dressed in a miniature replica of the bride’s gown. In this family photo, we look like a crazy family that just married off our two youngest children, my older daughter looks like she has one oddly placed prosthetic leg, and I’m rocking some sweet shoulder pads.”

On Golden Pond

On Golden Pond - Behind The Awkwardness

“A very short-lived photo studio opened at the mall near our house and my brother and I begged for months to get our family photo taken there.  Finally, our parents relented and  our family spent a glorious evening trying a variety of poses and costumes before selecting this gem.  The real highlight came with people’s reactions to the photo after we had it framed and placed over the fireplace.  Because this was before the advent of Photoshop, a lot of people ACTUALLY BELIEVED THAT THIS HAD HAPPENED…even one of my brother’s girlfriends.”

Urban Cowboy

Urban Cowboy - Behind The Awkwardness

“This was one of my most awkward years, early 80′s when Urban Cowboy was blowing up at the box office.  My school decided that spring photos would be exactly that. Well I am not sure if that was the greatest of ideas, but its given my family, facebook and now hopefully AFP plenty more laughs!!!”

The Kid’s Table

The Kid’s Table - Behind The Awkwardness

“Our family of 6 kids did a lot of traveling by VW bus.  This shows the youngest brother ‘hanging’ around.   I have a bunch more awkward family shots but this one just cracks us all up.”
