Behind The Awkwardness

Win Win - Behind The Awkwardness

Win Win

The award was for the 1979 Boulder High School marching band winning the best in the state. I played the snare drum, which was extra hard since I had to use one hand to keep my dress/kilt down in case a swift updraft whooshed by. Even though the outfit is gone, I still have the trophy and always manage to bring it on first dates as a conversation starter.

– “Mitch, what’s that 3 foot trophy doing on the table?!”
– “Oh, that old thing? Lemme tell ya a story, m’lady…!”

“This is a photo with me, my husband, daughter and all my in-laws. In the very center of the picture, my mother in law is pressed up against her husband and ex-husband on each side. AWKWARD!”

Rope Burn - Babies

Rope Burn

“My twin brother and I tied to our side porch by my father and grandfather to prevent us from walking in the concrete they were pouring out back. In his defense, he did leave us a box of toys and a sweet pair of boots within rope’s length. Mom and grandma were not pleased upon their return.”

The Cup - AFP Hall Of Fame

The Cup

“1975. Little league. In the middle of a game, the league photographer showed up to snap our team photograph. That inning, I had been playing catcher and was wearing all of the catcher’s gear– chest protector, face mask, helmut, shin guards and of course, the team cup which I wore over the uniform. I forgot to remove something before the photograph was snapped and to this day, I believe the photographer got a helluva good laugh out of it.”

Make A Wish - Behind The Awkwardness

Make A Wish

“Even a 4 year-old knows there’s no “winging it” with birthday candles. This is my brother’s birthday. My mom had obviously forgotten the candles and had instead snapped Christmas taper candles in half.”

Happy Labor Day from AFP! - Behind The Awkwardness

Happy Labor Day from AFP!

“I worked at a cub scout camp that had a theme of Star Wars. Some of my co-workers and I had a picture taken together. The older guy is a falconer, and we used the raven at camp a lot. To me, this picture makes so much sense, but to anybody else, there are three teenagers surrounding an older man holding a raven, and we’re all dressed as Jedi. Weird.”
