Tales Of A Fourth Grader

Tales Of A Fourth Grader - Behind The Awkwardness

“My 4th Grade school picture.  This was the last year of my life that I remember being blissfully ignorant of what others thought of my appearance and it shows.  Even my own mother calls this my “Only a mother would love” picture.  Soon after this my parents got me contacts, presumably out of pity.”

Dad Bod

Dad Bod - Behind The Awkwardness

“This is my father in about 1973 in the Central Wisconsin vacation town called Waupaca. We recently found it in the attic when down-sizing my mother’s home. Yes, he is wearing shorts, but I don’t know why he chose to wear the hat with all that pasty white flesh bared to the elements. The picture is complete with the Frisbee in one hand and the can of Old Milwaukee in the other. Though Dad has been gone for many years now, his sense of “Every-dadness” lives on in this priceless photo.”

Duck Hunter

Duck Hunter - Behind The Awkwardness

“Once my parents couldn’t find me and had to call the police. This was the most recent photo they had (me holding a dead duck my dad brought home from hunting) to show the police, who thought it was hilarious.”

Left Out

Left Out - Behind The Awkwardness

“This is (obviously) the last day of pre-school for my oldest. We do a first day picture and a last day. Pictures are always torturous for my boys but for some reason my youngest was convinced he needed to be in the picture. I wouldn’t let him outside so that I could snap it quickly and take him to school. The outcome was EPIC!”

Last Friday Night

Last Friday Night - Behind The Awkwardness

“Everything I had going on for me summed up in one picture: feathered bangs, orange and black rubber bands on my braces because it was around Halloween (I did that for every holiday), glasses (which my mom picked out in peach so they ‘blended with my face), a high pony tail because I was on the dance team, and turquoise earrings (duh, I live in New Mexico). Years later my friend would point out how similar I looked to Katy Perry in the “Last Friday Night” video.”
