Christmas

The Year Of Burgundy

“Each year, our family bought new outfits to color coordinate with the Christmas tree. 1988 was the year of burgundy. My dad did such a fantastic job with the lighting for this photo, it’s almost as though he was a professional photographer. Evidently, I was the only one truly happy to be there. I knew the Nintendo Power Pad was waiting for me under that tree.”

Wunderbras

“When I was a kid, my mom, who is a seamstress, would make funky gifts every year for Christmas. Some time in the late 80s, she got her hands on some giant men’s underwear and made sports bra’s out of them. Hence, my two aunts and grandma modeling them on Christmas Eve. This is just one of many awkward Christmas eve photos.”

Oh Deer

“My great-great grandpa had a pet deer and a pet bear. Guess the bear was in the woods.”

Casual Christmas

“My dad notoriously has never worn pajamas. My mom struggled to get him to wear a robe, too. Christmas mornings in the 80s he would eventually throw something on when my grandparents knocked on the door. Fortunately for us, he started putting pants on a few years ago for Christmas morning. Because now he gets cold.”

The Santa Experiment

“When I was a little kid, my mom had the idea to style my cousin into Santa Claus one year. The experiment went wrong.”

Dog Sitter

“Resentment at it’s finest…not sure if it’s from the elf costume or for us bringing home this baby!”

Deck The Halley’s

“This is not a picture of terrified 6-yr-old me being held hostage by Santa Claus and his not-so-little helper, but actually a real holiday photo shoot at a toy store during Christmas season in 1985. In case you’re wondering what Santa’s helper was wearing, it was a Halley’s Comet-inspired costume because Halley’s Comet was all the rage in 1985.”
