Clean Break

“Our mom’s first marriage didn’t end well, so my grandmother altered the wedding photo shortly after the dissolution. Both our grandma and mom have since passed away but this is a good example of our family’s no-nonsense approach when encountering difficulties in life. Cut it out and move on.”

Headroom

“My parents had gotten divorced and Dad got remarried right before this was taken. Between the families there were nine kids: my siblings, half-siblings, and step-siblings. The adults had decided to take portraits with all the different family combinations. If I remember correctly, there was lots of arguing about which kids should be in which photo. I think this photo captures our response to the drama.”

Cheeto Snowman

“We decided to be creative and decorate our snowman with food coloring. The snow did not roll well into balls so we had to pack the snow instead. We were so excited to get it colored that we didn’t realize that shape it had taken until after we stepped back to see the finished product!”
