Siblings

Headroom

“My parents had gotten divorced and Dad got remarried right before this was taken. Between the families there were nine kids: my siblings, half-siblings, and step-siblings. The adults had decided to take portraits with all the different family combinations. If I remember correctly, there was lots of arguing about which kids should be in which photo. I think this photo captures our response to the drama.”

Glamour Shots With Grandma

“My twin sister and I took glamour shots with our grandmother. We loved her, but sometimes she had some weird ideas.”

Excitable Dad

“This is from my sister’s sweetheart ball. When Mom got the photo back she realized there was something wrong with Dad’s face.”

My Brother, The Cupid

“This is my second cousin ‘Jessica’ who happens to be engaged to the man holding the heart. They both work at the library. The Cupid here is her brother. This is the engagement photo they used in their wedding invitation.”

The Great Sofa Shortage Of 1974

“I’m the one in the horrible pink velvet dress. I grew up with a mother who was always dressed in the best while we wore fashions typical of these. Not only was it our best, but look how small this dress is on me (way too short and the cuffs are halfway up my arm). Thankfully I was thin so it wasn’t like it was too small (to her). My 2 older sisters were hidden in the back because their dresses were so short also. Of course, she is in the middle and looks like a million bucks.”

Meet The Mullets

“This is a picture of my Dad, Mom, and brother the year before I was born. It says ‘1994’ right on the photo, but it definitely wasn’t necessary cause it’s so obvious it was the 90’s. I mean, my Mom and brother’s hair say it all. He had that mullet for 4 years. And I just love the look on my brother’s face, he had evil plans.”

A Sisterly Engagement

“Someone our school talked my Mom into having my next oldest sister and me pose for what would be the least-seen photo in our family’s history. I was dragged out of 9th grade gym class and forced to don my choir robe, sweat still oozing from my pubescent pores. My sister, Emily wore her 10th grade orchestra band uniform. It wound up looking like an engagement photo, and it’s been a black mark on both of our developmental histories. Horrified by the final product and our over-tweezed eyebrows, this ‘precious family memory’ has been hidden in the shameful confines of my sister’s wallet, and has not seen the light of day for over 30 years.”

Sister Of Cobra Kai

“My husband and his brothers are in your infamous Cobra Kai picture. (He’s the one in front.) Well, they also had a sister. She was not into martial arts.”

Pushed To The Limit

“This is a photo of my two younger siblings and me at my cousin’s wedding. I was very ill, and my little sister was sick of being the guinea pig for the photographer’s lighting. Frankly, I laugh every time I see this photo.”

Dump Station

“Family camping vacation. I’m pretty sure the joke here was that we were the trash, but 30 years later it looks more like we are taking a…well, you know.”
