Floaters - Family Portrait

Floaters

“This is my family photo from 1996. My Dad was attempting to copy the photo from the Beatles album called ‘With the Beatles.’ It just looks like our heads are floating.”

Sneer For The Camera - Dad

Sneer For The Camera

“I just love the contrast between my mother’s sweet, Madonna-like appearance and my father’s menacing look.  My sister is the wide-eyed innocent in this photograph, while I am the disconsolate girl in the gingham dress.”

Colonial Chic - Family Portrait

Colonial Chic

“After a trip to Colonial Williamsburg, Mom was inspired to create costumes for the entire family for the next family photo. This hung, proudly in our living room for years.”

Pocket Man - Dad

Pocket Man

“My Dad’s self-portrait. Is there anything more 90s than acid-wash denim and a fake Rolex? As for the pocket, I don’t know what to tell you.”

Keeping Their Noses Clean - Family Portrait

Keeping Their Noses Clean

“Taken at a formal photographer’s studio  in 1975. Mom and Dad did it as a joke but I really meant it.”

Window Watcher - Family Portrait

Window Watcher

“This was not one of our best family photos, but somehow it works! It was Easter. I was newly pregnant and throwing up all day. Our one-year-old daughter would not sit still, hence the look on my husband’s face. Oh, and our three-year-old son decided this would be the only spot he would stand in. Somehow he looks like he is photobombing the pic, and is possibly an extra in ‘Children of the Corn’.”

Sisterly Love - Family Portrait

Sisterly Love

“My sister and I were about 20 and 22, and our little brother would have been about 15. We went to get family portraits taken and the photographer made us pose like this. My sister joked that our little brother smelled like farts, like he’d been “trapped in a room with 100 people farting for 100 minutes.”  This is now a family classic.”

Side Eye - Black And White

Side Eye

“Over 60 years ago, my parents had a picture done professionally of my two older sisters and me. This was one of the “proofs” they received. My two older sisters have now passed. I showed this to a friend who sent me one of your cards and suggested I send this to you. My middle sister had no idea why she had the ‘sideways’ eyes, but it has brought a lot of humor to our family for many years.”

“This was a family portrait. I suspect my mother sewed the outfits.”

The Christmas Chair - Christmas

The Christmas Chair

“My mom’s family, 1963. My mom and aunt are the little girls in front row. We’re all very confused as to why the chair is the focal point of the picture. Apparently my mom’s grandmother, who took the photo, always took pictures where the people were not centered or heads were cut off. Otherwise it’s just a typical 1960s Christmas picture!”
