Family Portrait

Photoshop In The 60’s

“My grandparents decided to have a family photo done many years ago when my aunt was out of town. So, 5 of the 6 children were present for the photo.  They decided to later add a photo (a bad photo) of my aunt to perfect the picture and complete the family photo.  Honestly, you can barely tell it was even altered.”

Preppie And Punk Rocker

“My brother and I are very different. I was a high school dropout and he was a top student, but we both turned out very well. I’m in the Black Flag shirt and he’s in the sweater. Mom got a coupon for free photos at the mall so she dragged us, and history was made. I consented only on the condition that I could wear whatever I wanted. Unfortunately, I also allowed my mom to blow dry my hair like that.”

Don’t Blink

“This was suggested by our photographer to not be included in our final album. ‘Nonsense,’ I said. ‘And dress it up with some sparklies for poops and giggles.’ We love it so much we are thinking of making it into a large portrait complete with a sparkly frame with little butterfly ornaments. It’s sure to *spark* some interesting conversation. And a good deal of awkwardness to boot.”

The Dummy Pose

“My daughter and I years ago. I had a beaver mullet and she looks like my ventriloquist’s dummy.”

Picking A Winner

“My family, the Dalys. Taken in the early 1970s. I’m the big brother. We were getting family photo at FOX studios and this was the first photo they took. My sister obviously was still getting ready. The photographer thought it was funny and my folks did too, so they had it printed. We had another taken but this one is the winner. We still talk about to this day. Here’s a photo from dad’s 73rd birthday two days ago.”

Yappy Holidays

“We were taking our family Christmas photo, and let’s just say the dogs weren’t in a Holly Jolly mood. This photo was the worst of the batch, but now it’s a conversation starter. We keep it right by the entrance of our home here in St. Louis.”

Shorts Story

“This is my oldest brother and his wife, pre-kids. Allegedly, the traveling photographer assured him he would frame from the waist up, but obviously didn’t. But that only explains the shorts, leaving us to wonder about so many other decisions they made prior to sitting for this session.”

Floaters

“This is my family photo from 1996. My Dad was attempting to copy the photo from the Beatles album called ‘With the Beatles.’ It just looks like our heads are floating.”

Sneer For The Camera

“I just love the contrast between my mother’s sweet, Madonna-like appearance and my father’s menacing look.  My sister is the wide-eyed innocent in this photograph, while I am the disconsolate girl in the gingham dress.”

Colonial Chic

“After a trip to Colonial Williamsburg, Mom was inspired to create costumes for the entire family for the next family photo. This hung, proudly in our living room for years.”
