“This is a picture of my mother’s two younger brothers and our uncle. My Uncle Mike is the hairy one in the half mesh, cut-off shirt with the socks pulled up, the one next to him is his younger brother Craig, and the one next to Craig is my Uncle Ron. This was at a family picnic back in the 1980′s. My Uncle Mike was obviously the most fashionable of the bunch.”

I voted for this pic solely because of the mesh half shirt. Who doesn’t love a mesh half shirt? I hope Uncle Mike is still rocking the mesh half shirt in 2012!
I like the composition of the photo, what’s the significance of the patch of ground on the left? He has obviously considered his posture for the photo, proud puffed out chest, he knows that crop top says ‘I got it!’.
LOL, you’re right! Are we supposed to notice the shorts match the marigolds in the background? All I can see are those socks and that cropped shirt.
It was the mesh shirt that cinched it for me.
Uncle Mike was too sexy for his shirt, apparently!
I chose this pic because while the other pictures represented the 80′s, uncle Mike was LIVING
I was on the fence about which to vote for in the 80s contest until I looked at those white socks again. I had the same white socks but never pulled them that far up my legs! Those mesh shirts were cool in the summer but there was just one problem.
If you wore them in the sun and got burned, you had a savagely painful burn on your skin to match the mesh pattern of the shirt! It was worse than wearing no shirt at all. Remember
sun-block in the 80s maxed out at about 8 SPF and had the consistency of bathroom caulk only it smelled a lot worse. A great time to grow up. No matter how awkward of a teen you were, pop culture was even more awkward.
Thanks for submitting the photo Jessica. It’s a classic.
Wouldn’t your mother’s younger brothers also be your uncles?
S/he does describe Mr. White Socks as her uncle, so Uncle Ron must be the great-uncle.
Uncle Ron is my great-uncle! Thanks Marc
