Mixed Emotions*

October 4th, 2010

“That moment of awe while arriving at The Great Smoky Mountains was directly opposed to the unfortunate timing of taking the picture without a bathroom break and 4 bottles of Mountain Dew.”

Hangin’ Tough

October 4th, 2010

“My brother and I in 1990 in the stockades at Fort Mackinac on Mackinac Island, MI. I seem to be enjoying it while rocking my NKOTB shirt and awesome hot pink fanny pack. My brother is sticking his tongue out at my mom who I’m sure was enjoying seeing us locked-up!”

The Accidental Tourists

October 4th, 2010

“We had a flat tire on our vehicle in the badlands and my husband and father in law had to get out and fix it.  Only problem was, this was where the bison roam and you are not to supposed to step outside your vehicle and we had no cell phone service…”

Curb Your Enthusiasm

October 4th, 2010

“This is from an early-80s vacation with my grandparents to the Smoky Mountains. I’m inappropriately dressed for the cold temperature, and my grandmother doesn’t look very happy about having to “closely control” me.”

European Vacation

October 4th, 2010

“This is a photo of my Dad, my sister and me on our first (and only) European vacation during the summer of 1988. I believe this photo was in Innsbruck, Austria. My Dad didn’t want to be there. I was missing my boyfriend back home, so just about every photo is tainted with teenaged angst. My sister, on the other hand, saw every photo as an opportunity to strike a pose. Here she was modeling her acid washed shorts and splash-paint tee.”

Indian Guides*

October 3rd, 2010

“Taken in 1978. If you grew up in the ’70s in the tri-state area, you probably ended up at a place called “Carson City” in Jersey. This is about as awkward as we get. Not only does this place no longer exist, I’m sure it would not be allowed. Chief Iron Horse even autographed the photo after it was developed”
