Florida, We Have A Problem

October 3rd, 2010

“This is a picture of my older sister and I at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Clearly, both of us are very excited to be there. I am the trendsetter in the ill-fitting pig T-shirt and teal shades and my sister is wearing my Mom’s giant sunglasses for some reason. Obviously, we’re protecting our eyes from the glare of our awesomeness.”

“My entire extended family took a vacation together to Disneyland that year. That’s me, the huge giant on the right. I was in that awkward 13-year-old stage where your family is, like, the lamest thing ever. So to have to pose with all my “dumb” cousins for this “stupid” picture – in public no less! – was way more than my dignity could sustain. Although I have no idea why that should embarrass me so much, and yet I was perfectly comfortable being seen in public wearing those shorts. And those socks. And that fannypack, and that hat.”

See No Evil, Hear No Evil

October 2nd, 2010

“This picture in the atrium of the Gaylord Palms Hotel in Orlando, was the result of a near-conniption thrown by yours truly. One of the only things I really want on vacation to capture the memories with some photographs of my family. On this day, my teenage daughter, did not want pictures taken, especially with her siblings. My son refused to smile, unless you count something that resembled a sock monkey. My youngest daughter is just high energy and I’m lucky to pin her down for a picture any day. Being the person who tries my best to provide a great vacation for each family member, I was ticked off that these brats could not stay still and for 2 seconds and smile. As my husband tried to calm me down, my kids sat down by this little pond and I took this picture which is one of my all time favorites!”

Holding It In*

October 2nd, 2010

“Our family, circa 1984, posing for a picture at Lake Tahoe. Ryan (the little guy on the right) had been complaining about having to pee for at least an hour when this was taken. And I never thought I’d say this, but my dad’s ever-present unibrow may be one of the least embarrassing elements of this photo.”
