“This is a picture of a music ensemble with whom I worked for six years, travelling around Canada & the US playing concerts for schools and adults. (I’m the handsome guy on the far right) Taking this picture was itself an awkward experience. We’re all of different heights and somebody had the brilliant idea to shoot us individually and then photoshop us in this weird pose WITH OUR HEADS AT THE SAME LEVEL. To add even more awkwardness, the chosen background is quite hideous as it has nothing to do with the rather random colour schemes of our solid colour jackets combined with whatever you call that thing the woman is wearing at the front. It all makes me think we’re doing a LOONEY TUNES cartoon”
“Nothing good can come from a going away party when the cake is a “booby cake” and the gift is a pair of Valentine boxer shorts signed by the staff. The text on the cake read, ‘Thanks For The Mammaries!’”
“A ski area near Marquette MI was holding a contest for sleds made out of cardboard and tape. The women who worked in the maintenance department of our long-gone airline decided to enter, adapting a large box that airplane parts had been shipped in. These are the racers along with the head of the department and his wife pre-race. Our team placed a dismal 12th out of about 30.”
“Be reassured, there IS a back story to this. Our boss was leaving and we wanted to get a t-shirt made for her; being the crazy bunch we are, it had to be the ugliest thing ever. So we waited after hours to get all “dressed-up” with as much junk as we could find in our stuff and to take pictures in the ugliest room of the building. Needless to say, she “loved” it. I’m quite sure the t-shirt ended up being shredded to make rags with it.”
“One year our department (the education staff at a zoo) decided it would be a great idea to send out a holiday card. Since we are known for bringing animal ambassadors into schools, what better than a picture than us with some of our ferrets, rats, a wallaby, a monster puppet, and a hawk, right?!? Not so much.
After many unsuccessful takes due to wiggly animals and a camera timer we couldn’t understand, this was our best shot. Two of our staff members couldn’t be there that day, and we didn’t want them to be left out, so we cut and pasted them in. But forgot to include their legs. Whoops. They are the two hovering torsos second and fourth from the right in the back row.
It was our first and last attempt at a holiday card.”
