This picture is packed with (probably southern) 80′s goodness, but it’s not awkward… pretty much every 80′s bride has dated photos like this or worse! Just because it’s “old” and funny because the styles were different then doesn’t mean it’s awkward.
See, I think a picture this dated is intrinsically awkward, just as photos we take now will look horribly awkward in 20 years for the same reason. That doesn’t mean it’s bad, and it’s not awkward in a “that’s so awful!” way – it’s kind of sweet and fun and lovable.

Shoulder pads yes, but the hair has clearly been through a cotton candy spinner and therefore is large but weightless.
I’m pretty sure I recently bought that dress at Goodwill and turned it into a Mardi Gras costume.
