“This wedding portrait was taken at my father’s best friends wedding. My pop is the mustachioed man wearing the burgundy velvet suit in the top right corner. I am the one on the bottom holding the taco-like basket. Why is there wheat? I do not know.”

I want to see more pictures of this wedding! Pleeease!
I freaking love this. This picture is just perfect.
They felt sure the inlaws would freak at bouquets of marijuana plants. The wheat was the next closest thing.
bAWAhahahahaHAHAHAHA
OMG – I had a taco basket too! Nothing would really stay in it – but I never did try wheat. Before anyone gets too misty eyed about the clothes – all I remember of 70s velour was that it was made from polyester and was hot as … hope this was a cool weather wedding cause that’s A LOT of velour.
and then everyone went home to their avacado green and harvest gold kitchen…….
This. is. EPIC.
I lived through the 70′s–long hair, both men and women, bell bottomed trousers, both men and women, velour everything, leisure suits with silk shirts unbuttoned to the waist, worn with big chunky necklaces–now called “bling.” Mini skirts OR dresses from another era. I would not want to repeat any of that!!
Love it! What a way to remember that era!
I’ve seen this episode of Star Trek
Am sure the wedding was dominated by the Bee Jees music. Maybe “How Deep Is Your Love”
as the bride walked down the isle? And “Staying Alive” at the reception? So 70′s! It really captures that era.
Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.
I love this picture and I feel like I know these people…or at least they are “folks like us”…must show this to my husband, of course our wedding pictures are in full Viking kit…
Wheat is actually a fertility symbol and has been associated with weddings since the Ancient Romans.
Still doesn’t make this any less awkward.
It could have been worse; it could have been dried corn.
This photo is fantastic! I’m serious! I want to wear these clothes!
This photo is just chocked full of awesomeness.
I remember the 70s, and I know the clothes were just what everyone wore to dress up. But the pose, and the accessories – that’s what makes this awkward. And special.
Yes, in the seventies we really dressed like this. Loved it.
I love this photo. Everyone looks so relaxed and happy – especially the bride. Even the bridesmaids dresses look comfy! It’s the opposite of most wedding parties, which tend to be stressed and pushed Iinto weird situations.
Makes me wonder if they turned out to be the all natural hippie types who had all their babies at home and grow there own food.
Just looking at this photo makes me wish I were in it!
The groom is pretty hot, actually.
p.s. this would make a brilliant album cover, too.
love LOVE this picture! Are they still married? They should do an updated version of it!
Wow!! This is unbelievably bizarre and FABULOUS at the same time!
Is the bride pinching the groom’s nipple?
That’s just awesome ~ I can’t think of any other words to describe it.
I was really confused by the heading, too, and it took reading the comments to figure out it was supposed to be “velour”. But, yes, bravery indeed.
This couldn’t be any more ’70s if they tried. Which is pretty awesome, really
I’m pretty sure you mean “velour” and not “valour,” although I’m sure it took a certain amount of bravery for the wedding party to agree to wear such…interesting clothing.
I’m sorry…I think this is kinda fabulous.
When Hippies marry…LOL
Man I totally dig this picture. This wedding pic is like fine wine – it will only get better with time. The little girl up the front and the bearded groomsman both look like they are having the time of their life, the others look ok with the whole deal but the groom and groomsman on the left they take the cake. They take cool to a whole new level. They emit coolness from every pore of their plush valour fabric that says “Eat your heart out “Ricco” and “Sonny” there is new kids on the block and they are way too cool for school.”
agreed
