Pole Positions

“This is one of my favorite family photos because it’s of me, my two brothers, and my sister outside of the Jungle Cruise ride at Walt Disney World in Orlando Florida. My mother took the picture in 1985. After we got off the ride, the young man that drove our boat rushed through Adventureland to catch up with us and tell my dad that his daughter was beautiful. I actually thought that the guy meant me, but I’m the girl leaning against the totem pole with the glasses. My sister is in the flowery black jumpsuit. And then, there are my two brothers. My brother in the knee high socks and sunglasses says that his favorite part of this pic is the boy looking on wearing the Figment hat. But I think everything from our clothes to our expressions show just how much fun we’re having on this family trip that we drove 16 hours from Maryland in the back seat of an Oldsmobile Cutlass for.”

“Our big vacation to Disney World in Florida. Who allows their children to go out in public dressed like this?”

The Backup Plan

“The plan for us that day was to go to Disneyworld, but upon our arrival we learned that the park had already reached capacity, and we were informed that Epcot was just as fun… As a 10 year old wanting to go on rides and see Mickey Mouse, I was not amused. My brother made the “duck face” all day long for every picture, and Mom did the requisite pamphlet hold ever so awkwardly.”

Hawaiian Tropic

“While staying at Embassy Suites in Honolulu, Hawaii, we walked to the beach. Notice the Diamond Head in the background. Each time we have been in Honolulu, we have this same photograph taken each time. It has become a family tradition with me, my mother, my daughter, and my niece. We now own Hilton Grand Vacations Club at Grand Waikkian and take the short walk to the beach near Embassy Suites for the picture with the birds. All In the Hilton family!”

On the Boardwalk

“Back in 1967, dad took mom and the kids on a New York vacation. Only, we lived there, so the vacation consiste of a group of day-trips. This one memorable day at Coney Island won’t be forgotten!”
