Language Barrier

“My son was in 4th grade at the time and went to school with a nice boy whose mom is Japanese and dad is from Prague. I don’t think they realized his costume had multiple meanings.”

The Kiss Thief

“I’m a mermaid performer. Today a 13-year-old boy stole his first kiss from me while posing for a photo.”

Shell Shock

“This was in October, 1999. I thought it would be cute. My husband about killed me. I hired a professional photographer. We were in costume for over an hour. Husband drank beer to get through it. I can’t believe now that I did this. Also my daughter had just given herself a nice bang trim.”

The “It” Factor

“I found these while going through old photo albums this weekend. Halloween 1979, I was a canvas for my older sister’s creativity. And clearly, I was thrilled about it. And yes, clowns freak me out 37 years later!”

Sun DMC

“My parents were worried that I couldn’t clap along to music, so they enrolled me in a hip-hop dance class. (I’m the one in the middle.)”

Denim Diva

“My fifth-grade picture. I picked out the outfit AND the hair. I now wish I had gotten a second opinion.”

Maroon 5

“My mother must have ransacked the Sears catalog to purchase these Sears Tuffskins maroon denim outfits (with white top-stitching) for all five of us kids. She got matching outfits for herself and Dad, who aren’t in the photo. Then we all went to Six Flags Over Georgia, where we were mistaken for – on multiple occasions – either a gospel group or a a country music band. As the eldest child (12) and only girl…I was completely mortified and spent most of the day dragging 20 feet behind my family. Flash forward 44 years and it is now my brothers’ and my most ‘precious’ (and totally hilarious) memory! Embrace the awkward!”

The Spirit Of ’93

“My sister hired a photographer to take our family picture all dressed up in our red, white and blue in 1993.  Our Dad, pictured in the white shoes, was very patriotic and my sisters and I are as well.  It all made sense at the time but now we can laugh and call this picture one of our most awkward family photos!  Thank you to my sister  for always thinking up such wonderful memories for our family!!”
