I was laughing so hard at the “superlove” comment that my son thought I was having an attack. I couldn’t calm down to tell him I was fine and he went and got my older son to see if I was ok. Then, once I calmed down, I was walking down my hallway and started thinking about it again and almost fell down laughing. HILARIOUS!
for all of you saying photoshop. Unless the mom and dad still dress like it is the 1970’s photoshop wasn’t around back then… Yes it could have recently been done, or created with other dark room techniques at that current period of time.
However, it looks like a very “real” shot to me. Depending on the lens they used and the super wide depth of field, that girl is just very close to the camera. The branch is coming at us, but we can’t tell since everything is so crisp and in focus. Your eyes naturally would focus in and out in this photo, but since they took it with everything in focus, you don’t have a choice.
The kid in the back is the one that got lucky and won a golden ticket from willy wonka. Guess Grandpa Charlie had passed on by the time this pic was taken.
Thanks for posting this, Dad. How great to give the world a glimpse into my abnormal childhood and be able to read their comments! The posters are right, by the way – that windbreaker was awesome. Any chance you still have it?
actually this pic isn’t half bad…very good..l………….ighting is good and the way everyone is scattered around….this actually looks like art or belongs in a magazine….
Wow, I stumbled upon this without knowing my father had posted it. I wonder how many other people are freaked out when they see their face on this site. I’m the young boy in the photo and I too remember it being taken. Must have been around 1979. We have a version with us all smiling but it’s not nearly as good. Thanks Dad.
I actually dig this picture quite a bit. In fact, had they been cheesy and smiled it would have ruined it for me. Seldom does “ennui” work in a family photo. Especially here.
***Any comments that are offensive to the point of being viciously personal, racist, homophobic, exceedingly profane, violent or too graphic in nature won't be posted. We want to keep this site a friendly place to be awkward. Thanks!***

Looks like a ’70’s album cover.
LOL! Betcha it’s got a 7 minute drum solo on it, like “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida”!
That was EXACTLY my thought when seeing this picture..
I superlove the mom’s sunglasses…The kid on the left has kick a** hair, and dad’s jacket is rad.
And could the girl in front be any happier?

looks like an album cover for a family band in the 70’s
Yes but it should be entitled the Disenchanted Forest
+1 on Disenchanted Forest
“You said we’d see Hobbits in the Shire!”
You took the words right out of my mouth.
“I see dead people”
hahahahahahahahahaha – zing!
BINGO!
if you look closely enough, you can see a little man holding a CROSSBOW in the trees. HAHA!!!! but maybe they’ve just photoshopped that in
Don’t you mean COMPOUND Crossbow?
hahaha thats awesome. this totally looks like a band slbum cover for story songs about nature
unfortunately, ‘de plane, de plane’ landed on the wrong side of the island, meaning mr. roarke and tattoo were no where to be found…
Songs From the Wood!
“ok… now nobody smile… perfect! got it!”
I actually love this one. It has a “real” quality to it. I always hate when people say this but “not awkward at all.”
I kinda like this one…
Wouldn’t a better title for this photo be “A Disenchanted Forest”?
that’s what I was thinking
the scale/perspective of this pic frightens me…
the girl in front looks enormous!
That’s exactly what I was thinking. Maybe that’s why they’re all so unhappy.
Woah..I feel like I am being pulled into the picture against my will.

Looks like the Royal Tenenbaums!
They’re right on the edge, but they do know what comes next.
YES! Totally The Royal Tenenbaums. Now I love the shot even more!
The Children of the Corn Get Grounded!
I think the caption should read “The Disenchanted Forest”
I love this photo. I don’t really think that it is all that awkward compared to other photos on this site. It’s rather brilliant.
totally agree!
I did always wonder what happened to all the kids the Others took on the Island….
Looks like they time traveled too.
Perfect Comment!
The mother seems to be just a floating torso.
They all look super imposed don’t they? lol
The kid in the back is the one that got lucky and won a golden ticket from willy wonka. Guess Grandpa Charlie had passed on by the time this pic was taken.
somehow, they don’t look like the outdoors type
I love everything about this one!
more like forest of illusions.
I love this picture.
It’s so 60’s or something.
If that was my family portrait, I’d be proud.
That tree is friggin’ awesome!
Anyone know what kind it is?

I absolutely love this photo!
What they aren’t telling you is that this is actually in The Fire Swamp. We wouldn’t want to live there, but the trees are quite lovely.
this is what happens when people enter the disenchanted forest.
Is it sad that I actually like this picture?

Looks like a creepy 80’s movie, “Children of the Trees” or something
I love the way the little girl is posed in the front.
I kinda like it. It’s got an artsy feel. Love the little girl’s expression. But it does look like it’s not really a family thing. haha
DAD I’M TIRED CAN WE GO NOW??? gEEEZ
Looks like the trees have taken over their bodies and are coming out all over!
They await the Watcher in the Rows.
I want to laugh at the collective ennui, but at the same time, they are just SO… Damn…. COOL.
It’s my perfect idea of a family photo! I seriously LOVE it on so many levels! Ahead of it’ time for sure. Not awkward, just awesome =)
I actually dig this picture quite a bit. In fact, had they been cheesy and smiled it would have ruined it for me. Seldom does “ennui” work in a family photo. Especially here.
Finally proof that Hansel and Gretal never did make it out of the woods… Love The Trees!
