Grandparents

Rear View

“This is me with my younger brother, our grandparents, and our father in hot pants. Circa 1985, Australia.”

The Christening

“This was my Christening, June 1971. I’m the baby obviously, my Godmother is holding me, my parents are next to her. Their hideous outfits aren’t the “awkward” part of this photo. In the background, my grandmother is pulling my sister’s hair while my brother is recovering from a smack! All of this right on the front steps of a church.”

O’ Luck

“My grandparents’ Christmas card from 1951 and my favorite annual reminder that font choice matters.”

Mahalo

“My grandparents in Hawaii in the early 70’s. And no, that’s not grandma on the right. She’s on the left giving the stink eye. If looks could kill, that hula girl wouldn’t live to see her next luau.”

The Last Picture Show

“Christmas 2012 and this was the last pic of the night. Grandparents with their granddaughters. As you can see, everyone had had enough.”

Don’t Sweat It

“Christmas in Frankfurt, Germany, 1998. My grandma knitted sweaters for my granddad, cousin, brother and me.”

Oh Deer

“My great-great grandpa had a pet deer and a pet bear. Guess the bear was in the woods.”

Look What Grandma Found

“We live near a man-made lake that they partially drain during the winter. We were walking around were the water had receded when Grandma called us over to share her discovery. Probably one of the strangest pictures I have ever seen. ”

Favorite Things

“Here we see my uncle and grandparents, in a photo taken by my mom. My grandpa (the one with the 3-foot long pointy shirt collar) is happily showing us a centerfold spread from a gentlemen’s magazine while my uncle and grandma display a crochet blanket. My mom told everyone to grab their favorite item from around the house before she took the photo.”

Not Patch Adams

“When I broke my leg, my grandparents hired a clown to come cheer me up.”
