Behind the Awkwardness: The Patriot

November 15th, 2009

My grandfather is the star of many awkward family photos. Here, he poses pantsless, with a pair of kettlebells, artistically composed at his feet to highlight his lack of pants and booty short spandex. The ¬†flag in the background pretty much says it all: this is AMERICA.”

Looks like Grandpa keeps his socks rolled up and jammed in his shorts.

  2. Lila says:

    OMG best picture ever! LMAO

  3. Lance says:

That’s a pretty funny photo but in all seriousness, Gramps looks like he is in pretty good shape! He’s got a good set of shoulders there!

  4. meme says:

  5. Sean says:

Well when it comes to the good ole US of A, grandpa has a “Generous Swelling of Pride”

  6. Zuluma says:

OMG the old man has a big heavy set of hard balls. I heard as they get older they stay on the floor, and men don’t pick them up when they pose for family pictures anymore.

  7. Sue says:

Reading what everyone has to say about Hannah’s gpa while Garth Brooks came on the radio singing “I’ve got friends in low places,” I’ve never laughed so hard at something that was online. I’ve gotta take a pee break b4 I can read the rest!

  8. jimBob says:

If I was built like granpa I would not wear pants either :)

Come on, people. Somebody has to wear the pants in the family!
Grandpa was a carpenter/hammered nails in planks/liked to lift his kettle balls/never wore his pants

  17. DeductiveReason says:

Some people say that the mind is the first to go. Now we know its the pants.

  18. Jasmine says:

Me and my mum are thoroughly enjoying these photos, we want to see more unsightly bulges!

  19. Carey says:

I’m guessing that by his physique, his haircut, the flag, and the way he stands with his hands curled, he’s prior military? Too funny.

  20. Miranda says:

    :o:o:o :o:o:o:o :o

  21. Lisa says:

My first thought since he is an older man if he realized he didn’t have any pants on and I learned not only did he know but he didn’t on purpose! Then I thought how much was the photographer paid to take the picture?

  22. LucianGemini says:

  38. Luke says:

It may be awkward, but Grandpa’s in great shape. I would have done it shirtless

    • kiki says:

oh i hate my keyboard. that should say “oh my, coming from a luke, that is awkward. almost as awkward as when i misread it as grandma”
never ever buy a used keyboard.

  39. JVinKC says:

Actually no, the stars belong at the top left no matter how the flag is hanging.

    • WI_DJ says:

      1. When hanging the American flag on a building it should be hung on a staff or on a rope over the sidewalk with the stars away from the building.
      2. If the flag is hung over the street, it should be hung with the stars to the east on a north- south street or north on an east-west street.
      3. A flag that is hung in a window should be hung vertically with the stars to the left of anyone looking at it from the street side.

      • Laura says:

Why all these rules on how to hang a flag? All we need to know is that it represents America.

        • Juiol says:

Actually, it represents the USA. America = two continents.

          • Walt says:

They would have specified if they meant south america or north america. The US is know as America also. Americans? Duh.

        • Alicia says:

The rules are there to ensure that people display the flag with a sense of purpose and dignity. The flag is not supposed to be a fashion statement, or something that you just hang out and leave along for months at a time, with little care for it’s condition.

There are many rules for how this particular symbol is to be treated, and they are all to ensure that proper respect is given.

      • Jared says:

Obviously that is not a regulation sized casserole flag. No Clois du Bois for you! – Thanksgiving Marna

      • Kelley says:

{SIGH} note to self…take the flag down..

  40. Stacy says:

Oh Hannah — you just made my entire day with your pantless grandfather and his kettleballs. This Thanksgiving, I’m giving thanks to you.

Long may it wave! And I like the flag too.

  42. Dawne says:

Ok…the photo by a landslide is so interesting on many levels but the comments are so funny they are making me cry! You guys should stop…absolutely hilarious.

  43. Belushi123 says:

The flag is backwards. Stars should be on the right. Otherwise…Hi-larious!

  44. hopper says:

    Semper Fi!

  45. anonumous says:

the grandaughter (i guess) is really hot. va va voom!

  46. EC says:

those blls are obviusly too large and too heavy for an old man to be carrying around….

  47. thepilferer says:

Cassie’s inner monologue in the photo: “this will definitely be going on AFA”

  48. Esteban Del Grande says:

One can’t help but remark on that pair of kettleballs. Handles too!

  49. Tammy says:
