What’s interesting is the girl’s uniform is about as form fitting and/or flattering on her as the uniforms on most of the women (Troi, etc.) on Next Generation or any other series.
Really, I thought it was a tiny bit awkward because while Dad and the kids are way into it, Mom’s expression says “Please forgive me!” to all the non-Trek relatives they gave this to. Funny stuff!
As funny as all of us may think this is, I guarantee you this family, their relatives, and their children’s children will get ten times more laughs out of this. I think it’s a demonstration of a family that is hitting on all cylinders. And I’m no trekkie.
My wife and I don’t have a picture like that but we do have an episode of the original Star Trek series with me as the captain and she as the Vulcan science officer, complete with the pointed ears! Thirty years ago at Universal Studios Orlando, we paid $25 to have us dubbed into a special episode. We had the real wardrobe and speaking parts. It was and is hilarious, priceless, one of a kind. We co-starred along with the entire crew of the Enterprize, awesome!
I LOVE this photo! Hey, I graduated from college in my original series Star Trek uniform, and had my driver’s license picture taken in my next gen uniform. It makes for good conversation when I get pulled over, or getting ID’d at bars. SO FUN!
I LOVE THIS, I would’ve died from joy if my family had done this when I was a kid…(this from the 27 year old mother of a 3 year old who recently scored two pairs of Vulcan ears at a yard sale LOL of course I have no idea what I’ll ever do with them…now I have an idea hehehe)
Ok..the mom looks JUST like that doctor that took over for Crusher when she left the Enterprise for a while… Doctor Pulaski…weird yet the coolest thing ever!
I thought so too, so I was actually scanning all the comments to see if anyone else felt the same. On the one hand, I’m a little sad I had to go back this far to find it, on the other, I’m pleased to know that I’m not the biggest nerd on this site.
this may be one of the most classic photographs on the planet! usually in a situation like this the kids would be dragged into it but it honestly looks like they are as happy to be doing this as their proud pappa is.
I have never dressed as a Trek character, but this is a great picture. I love the show, grew up watching it. I hope the Trekkie has been passed down succeeding generations.
Since this was probably taken in the 80s, the kids may have spawned their own “Next Generation” by now (yeah, that was a groaner). It would be really cool if this “original cast” got together and posed in reboot/alternate reality costumes (if you saw the movie, you’ll know what I’m talking about) and posted it here! Dad probably looks a lot like Spock Prime by now!
Wow… two engineers, a doctor, and oh..sorry for the loss of your one son (red shirt of doom) on what ever planet he beamed down to and was immediately destroyed.
Greatest and funniest pic. I wonder if after all of these years are they still Trekkies? Have the kids since married and raise their children to also be Trekkies? I certainly hope so.
I’m going to go one step further and wear my Starfleet uniform WITH Vulcan ears for this year’s holiday card. I’ll have to get my husband to wear command gold.
He might not be the family favorite since they gave him Wesley Crusher’s outfit. However, Captain Picard and Lieutenant Riker also wore it too so he could still be loved. They at least gave him a communicator, more than I can say for dad.
Not a fan of the newer Star Treks, but the red shirts always died in the original series with Capt Kirk and Spock…
and not gonna lie – Nurse Chapel might have been the only woman to be able to pull off the shiny spandex disco dress…
I have been looking at photos and reading comments for at least an hour, (yes at the moment i do have too much time on my hands), but this is the first comment I wanted to comment on. OMG you had me snort laughing!!! Too damn funny!!! I love me a good smart ass =)
***Any comments that are offensive to the point of being viciously personal, racist, homophobic, exceedingly profane, violent or too graphic in nature won't be posted. We want to keep this site a friendly place to be awkward. Thanks!***

SO MUCH WIN.
I wish I were related to these people
I seriously hope to god that they made Christmas cards out of this.
“If you want a Merry Christmas…MAKE IT SO.
From, the Rajavatharaprum family….”
And yes, this is what I will do with my family duh.
I love it. I would dress like that for a family photo. and Star Trek is way better than Star Wars by the way.
kudos.
100% agree! Star Trek FTW!!!

which ones the extra?
where is my phaser when i need it

I wouldn’t call this awkward…it’s humorous and well composed.
Awesome!! This would be so cool to do with our family! And we could even add ‘Spot’…

lol like twenty five or twenty years ago my parents did the same thing…. im scared to watch it
Trekkers forever….
AWESOME pic – but shouldn’t the dad be wearing the command uniform , not the science one?
Wow lots of nerdy comments!
seriously, I am more amazed by the comments than the picture now!
This would have been PERFECT if Dad had worn a Jordi LaForge visor!
I LOVE this photo! Hey, I graduated from college in my original series Star Trek uniform, and had my driver’s license picture taken in my next gen uniform. It makes for good conversation when I get pulled over, or getting ID’d at bars. SO FUN!

I don’t get it??.
Um this is awesome not awkward. Very awesome. I wish my family was this awesome.
A family that phasers together, stays together
Those are ST:TNG uniforms – the women have Counselor Troi’s dress. This is the family portrait of my dreams!! Beautiful!
Best. Picture. Ever.
Mr. Zulu, set phasers to tickle!
Inspiring! I feel better about life . . .
Ok..the mom looks JUST like that doctor that took over for Crusher when she left the Enterprise for a while… Doctor Pulaski…weird yet the coolest thing ever!

You both aren’t alone – I picked up on it as well!
dude this is hilariousss nd wayy epicc.
I know the man in the front. That is Keith
Holy CRAP, I know them!!!! The guy on the ground went to high school with me!
Yeah, I went to high school with him too! Had the exact same reaction
.
I’m jealous that I don’t have my own outfit and communicator to wear. Best family photo EVER!
this may be one of the most classic photographs on the planet! usually in a situation like this the kids would be dragged into it but it honestly looks like they are as happy to be doing this as their proud pappa is.
Almost as cool as TOS uniforms. Just saying.
What’s cool is that they’re either all into Trek, which is, of course, awesome, or they’re all humouring dear old dad, which is also very cool.
why couldn’t they be humoring dear old mom? Maybe she’s the Trekkie of the family.
I doubt it…
The dad looks so proud, while the mom looks a little concerned.
this photo has inspired me to make Star Trek costumes for my entire family, our christmas card this year is going to rock.
you’d better post it for us to enjoy!!!
Dad is no dummy… he’s not wearing a Comm Badge. He won’t have to listen to the kids’ “Beam me up” or “Are we there yet?”
Anyone else thinking “the one in the red always dies?” o.O
Pure awesomeness!
AWESOME!!!
Can’t wait till the daughter is old enough to vote! She’s the only one that I “rooted” for haha.
I have never dressed as a Trek character, but this is a great picture. I love the show, grew up watching it. I hope the Trekkie has been passed down succeeding generations.

That would be an awesome idea!
Wow… two engineers, a doctor, and oh..sorry for the loss of your one son (red shirt of doom) on what ever planet he beamed down to and was immediately destroyed.
This is the best comment! As soon as I saw in the new movie how 3 people would be going to the plant I knew the one in red wouldn’t be coming back.
actually at this stage of starfleet uniforms, red is for command and gold is for security and engineering ^_^
but that was funny anyway :p
Thanks, Ina, that’s exactly what I was going to post. The “red-shirt-guy-always-dies” thing is SOOOO “Original Series.”
(Yes, I am a nerd, clearly.)
Yeah, i was going to say something like, “Ouch. We know who ISN’T the favored son!”
I want to be a part of this family too! Weird we all feel the same way. I wonder if it was as great as we assume it to be.
No not all of us
Dad is so proud!
I’m so jelly right now….
Greatest and funniest pic. I wonder if after all of these years are they still Trekkies? Have the kids since married and raise their children to also be Trekkies? I certainly hope so.
I LOVE this picture!!! I want to marry into this family!!!
That was exactly my first thought.
So strange, but so great!
I wish we had a cool themed family picture when growing. Jealous!
Basically, this is the best thing I’ve ever seen.
I’m going to go one step further and wear my Starfleet uniform WITH Vulcan ears for this year’s holiday card. I’ll have to get my husband to wear command gold.
why isn’t Dad wearing his pointy ears?
Because Spock wasn’t in TNG. Get it right.
A family that “Treks” together, stays together!
agreed.
Most kick-ass family photo EVER.
THAT IS THE MOST TRU STATEMENT I HAVE EVER HEARD
the one with the red shirt always dies… you can see who”s not the family favourite…
Damn you trekkies! Star wars would be 10 times cooler!!
EXACTLY!!
He might not be the family favorite since they gave him Wesley Crusher’s outfit. However, Captain Picard and Lieutenant Riker also wore it too so he could still be loved. They at least gave him a communicator, more than I can say for dad.
Captian Picard wore a red shirt… knucklehead
Not a fan of the newer Star Treks, but the red shirts always died in the original series with Capt Kirk and Spock…
and not gonna lie – Nurse Chapel might have been the only woman to be able to pull off the shiny spandex disco dress…
nurse chapel pulled it off AND married gene roddenberry so she’s the one benefiting from our star trek facination
actually, that Next Generation command officer maroon, so he might be the Chosen One of the family.
I am completely not comfortable with that girl wearing that.
I am.
LOL!! so true!!!!LOL!!!
LOL…I am especially loving the geek arguments in this thread. Everyone is trying to prove that they know the most about Star Trek. I sense a Trek-off!
Tragically, the boy in the red shirt died shortly after the photo session….
I have been looking at photos and reading comments for at least an hour, (yes at the moment i do have too much time on my hands), but this is the first comment I wanted to comment on. OMG you had me snort laughing!!! Too damn funny!!! I love me a good smart ass =)
