The juxtaposition of the awkward family and cutey-pie little boy just highlights all the cuteness he’s got going for him.
I about split a gut–how proud and happy Sean is! Everyone else is blase’. Totally funny–thanks for sharing.
You sure it’s not Nogales? I was certain that it was that place in Nogales when I saw it. I knew I’d seen it before. It’s a fair hike in from the border. I’ve eaten there once, probably five years ago now.
It is la Roca in Nogales on the mexican side of the border. Any body who’s grown up there can tell you.
I think my sister had a dress like that in the early 90′s.
DAMMIT!! Scratch that!! It was ROCKY POINT after all!!
Okay yeah, it was Nogales. Rocky Point /Nogales, right next to each other. Rocky Point is Puerto Penasco for you purists out there.
I’m the mother in the photo. It was taken in the courtyard of a restaurant in Rocky Point, Mexico, not Casa Bonita. The little girl’s name is Shannon, the older brother is Paul, and of course Sean is the kid in the sombrero. The restaurant had an attached curio shop where a lot of erotic pottery was displayed for sale. I had just finished trying to explain some of the pieces to Shannon and Sean before this photo was taken, which is why I looked so uncomfortable. Paul was still trying to absorb what I’d just said, Shannon didn’t understand a bit of it and was just happy to be there, and Sean didn’t care about anything except his new hat and the meal he was about to have.
BWHAHAHA!!! I am SO red faced right now! That is my family and me in the cute little green dress.
Sorry to dissapoint anyone but this wasn’t at Casa Bonita (although we DID go there a lot when we lived in Denver) this is actually down in Nogales, Mexico. I remember this trip well, it was a BLAST. And no, I don’t remember having Montezuma’s Revenge as I posed for this photos, but I don’t doubt my mom or big brother were just as bored as they looked.
Sean has always been a bit of a goofball and Paul was rocking the Napolean look long before the movie was filed.
I’m not sure why someone said my hair looked photoshopped but I can assure you that nope, it wasn’t. It was actually just as crappy and awkward as it looks in that photo.
How funny to find this here. I suspect Sean’s to blame…
Aww… but the little guy is adorable!
Baby Linda Ronstadt and Baby Davey Jones are loving it, but Teenage Michael Stipe is bored with it
Is it strange that I find the older brother rather attractive? xD
Lol fantastic pic, you go Sean!
The missing fourth amigo..
El nacho Libre. Ole!
He looks like a little Rod Blagojevich!!!!!
Ignoring the awkwardness of everyone else, Sean makes my day with his grin. Can’t help but smile back!!
I’ll bet that big bro thinks that he is way cool, and that his mum is lame-o. But just look at them – same hair, same glasses, same slight lean to the right…. The apple hasn’t fallen far!
The little girl’s face or hair looks altered. Looks like someone has been playing with Photoshop.
HEY WOW ANOTHER PHOTOSHOP CONSPIRACY
Can we stop this immature crap please?
no no no, obviously it was a picture of a face, and the REST of the family was added. duh! xD
Cant beat them, so join them!
This is the cutest pic
I love the girl’s dress– looks like one of the Butterick patterns my mom would have used to make me a dress back then…
Wonderful Pic.
Is it just me, or does the older brother look like Napoleon Dynamite? I bet he’s got awesome numchuck skills.
Rod Blagojevich, the early years
After the Hagars’ first vacation in Cabo, llittle Sammy was hooked!
Funny glasses
Ay ay ay ay, I am the Frito Bandito!
Well at least someone was excited for the taco salad.
Older bro is Mr. Sassy Pants.
Or Senor Sassy Pants, if you prefer.
Or Senor Pantelones de Sassy……..
LOL!!! en espanol!
Sean, I think you are my hero. I think my parents would’ve gladly dumped me if they could’ve taken you on family trips instead.
Our little vaquero sure looks proud of himself…for one who just chowed down on the chicken nuggets and fries!
South of the Border is kick ass!!……..until you go back as an adult and realize it’s kind of a dump. Sean, obviously, has not realized this.
“Can’t tell one thing from another,
I got married to my brother,
The hat I got for Christmas is too beeg.”
Sean’s hands on his hips while rockin’ the serape is great! He’s a cutie, I love this picture!
Ok, from a photography stand point…..
1 the glare is amazing on both mother and brother ( I think its brother’s glasses)
2 The little girl looks like she needs to go to the bathroom
3 Both boys have completely different eye direction
4 Why no smiles, just cause you are over the age of 10 doesnt mean you cant smile.
5 Brother’s pants and the random man in the background?
2. Yeah, that could be bathroom strain on her face, but I was thinking more along the lines of stepferd kids. She might be playing “good child” to her older brother’s indifference and determination to make everyone pay for dragging him along to wherever, and her younger brother’s obvious dream about show biz and maybe trying out for the role of Bobby in a Brady Bunch All-Musical Review.
6. Mom looks more like she needs the restroom, if only to get away from weird characters standing near her.
Lolololol This is adorable!
yes.. must’ve been Sean’s b-day at Casa Bonita. The rest of the family actually ate the “Mexican” food… or “food”. Sean had the Sopapillas, the only thing edible there. And he had an awesome time watching the cliff divers and going through that cave.
Ah! you beat me to it. Exactly what I was thinking: b-day party. Hence, his glee and everyone else’s meh.
As soon as you gave the description of the place, I knew I had been there before. You are absolutely right about the Sopapillas being the only decent thing to eat.
You can just see happiness radiating off of Sean…
He’s just smiling because the refried beans he just ate haven’t kicked in yet unlike his mom and older brother who are wishing they had some Pepto Bismol right about now.
Little dude looks like he’s about to do the dance from “Three Amigos”
He loved his vacation at Santo Poco.
He is El Guapo.
any minute now, he will bust out with his version of “My Little Buttercup”, just as soon as steve martin and chevy chase arrive…
Out of wild curiosity, is that restaurant in Mesilla New Mexico? It looks like a place I used to go. Nice smile Sean! I hope you still wear it often.
nope, casa bonita is down in Denver, CO
It’s actually in Lakewood, CO… I believe they’ve were shut down a few times for serving “questionable” food. But their Sopapia’s are fabulous!
lol, Sho, its “sopapillas”…its okay though, i cant spell choloera or dysentary…
I thought this was the cast of El Sonido de la Música, with Maria, Federico, Brigita, y Karlos.
Awww, the little dude is so cute with his big ol’ sombrero…
This is in Denver…Casa Bonita! So many awesome childhood memories there….
YES! You’re right! I was wondering why it looked vaguely familiar-it’s that fantastically cheesy restaurant. That adds an extra degree of awkwardness to the photo.
You mean like the South Park episode?
hahaha precisely.
NO FRICKIN WAY I just watched a South Park Episode the other night about Casa Bonita! *HIGH FIVE*
Poor Butters!!!!
You’re right! I used to love that place. Then I grew up.
“Casa Bonita! Casa Bonita! Food, fun, and a festive atmosphere!”
My favorite South Park episode EVER!
Did he always wear a sombrero and poncho when going to a Mexican restaurant, or was this just because it was his birthday? Or were these props that the restaurant had?
Sean, you rock! And you look like a young Stephen Colbert!
Sean’s got “This is the bestest trip EVER” written all over his face.
Too bad Mom and Sean’s big brother feel otherwise.
But he’s happily oblivious, perhaps because the sombrero is blocking his view of anything else.
Looks like this vacation turned south for the adults.
That’s funny.
But poor Sean, the little guy is so happy and he doesn’t understand why no else is.
And what’s wrong with this? It’s cute.
Excuse me; we’re not Mexicans, we’re from out of town.
Do you have anything to eat besides Mexican food?
I love the Three Amigos!
Arrrrriba, dude!
