thats actually quite the costume, whoever came up with the concept is a fashion genius…now Susie wont have to worry about swapping outfits as mom drives her from marching band practice to her figure skating competition…granted sweet Susie doesnt claw mommy’s eyes out…
What staggers my imagination is the notion that someone actually designed this costume. Someone actually sat down with a sketchbook and made a deliberate decision to create this monstrosity. I can’t even imagine the mental process that led to this stylistic disaster.
Actually… this costume was cutting edge for 1980something… those daring and flattering asymmetrical style lines are fantastic… on someone much thinner. Obviously this was itching her, as the brilliant photographer caught her just as she was about to claw her leg off.
Oh..my..God. I have this exact “uniform” somewhere at my parents house from when I took tap dancing lessons as a kid. I’m pretty sure the song that year was “Only Wanna Be With You” by Hootie and the Blowfish. Wow..
NO WAY!! I had that same costume when I was like 8 for a tap dance recital!!! Lol Luckily my hat didn’t have that many feathers…but still. man. I like how this girl wears her heart on her sleeve, her one sleeve.
My sister wore that same dance costume in ‘95 for a tap number to a Fred Astaire medley. I need to find that picture and submit it. My favorite is the ONE poofy sleeve… “not only will your right arm be cold, but your left shoulder will look enormous!” And the pointy cap hat.. love it!

Oh Bravo!
This costume probably couldn’t compare to the bad bridesmaid dresses she’d have to wear a few years later…
The look on her face is priceless! it made me guffaw lol! totally made my night
Priscilla Queen of El Paso
Robbie, hilarious!! SO TRUE!!

This was in my dance recital in 1996…I had friends who wore it!
And now, I don’t know this girl!
OMG! I just spit my pepsi out of my mouth LOL!!! Thate look on her face!! Priceless.

You can’t convince me…sorry.
I wore it in 1996…for my Olympic themed recital… yes. 1996. Ballet has some standards, but there is no tacky limit for tap costumes.
I like how Mom took her glasses off so SHE’d look good in this photo…..

My daughter just asked, “Is she angry that she had to wear that outfit?”
pictures like this make me glad I was born male
I think she is starting fires with her mind.
DEFINITELY!
I know these people. I’ve been in that van many times and I went to high school and college with that girl.
Posted by Annonymous. Even after all these years she still won’t reveal herself. Nice going Mom! Haha
Gee..she really looks like a happy camper.
I SO want this for a Mother’s Day card!!!!

amazing response. ha!!
OH MY GOD! I had the same outfit for tap recital one year!!!! My feather hat looked way better
I TOLD mom you don’t wear costumes at the National Jr. Chess Championships!
Just another typical 1990s high school majorette/colorguard outfit. They were all horrible looking back then.
Hi, this is my daughter, she’s the one child that actually made it thru the accident.
She’s thinking, “Just wait till I’m grown and write a book, Mommy Dearest!”

I love this photo! But for a caption I was thinking more of “Ralph knew this photo would someday come back to haunt him.”
“Who’s a pretty parakeet? Who’s a pretty parakeet? Come on, nobody likes a gwouchy parakeet! And, snap.”
