Behind The Awkwardness: Cougartown

March 3rd, 2010

“This was my brother and me in a crib that our dad had built, along with Sadie the cougar. We were modeling for his furniture, but who knows whether or not this confusing pic gave credit to his woodworking skills.”

  2. j-dizzle says:

i would love to PERuse the dad’s CATalogue of other handmade FURniture……

  3. Sharon says:

Thank you for making my childhood look safe and normal!

  4. Deeters says:

Look at the mobile – is it hunks of wood?? Seems a little dangerous…oh wait THERE IS A FRICKEN COUGAR IN THE BED… forget the mobile

  5. durhay says:

When caring for your cougar, PLEASE REMEMBER it’s “BACK to sleep”. Never lay a cougar down on its stomach.

Does anyone know where I can buy this cougar litter box/cage/feeding station? Combining all these items into one will really save me a lot of space in my basement apartment. I like the drawers below the cage to store extra litter and pooper scoopers and the choppping board to the right of the cage/litter box would be handy since I chop raw but dead meat for my cougar instead of live feed as this cat lover obviously prefers.

  7. yolanda says:

Well, that cougar is quite clever! Instead of eating the kids, he’s entertaining them and in return gets quality food for life!
    scary picture.

  8. melissa says:

Is your dad Jake Jabs? From AFW? I bet he is, if not your dad needs to get together with Mr. Jabs.

  9. Judah says:

I was smiling as I looked through the various awkward photos on this site.

When I stumbled on this one, the smile fell right off my face.

WTH is a couger doing in a crib with kids?

  10. backchat says:

So…does this make all of you “haters” of the baby on the step feel silly?

  11. LAURIE says:

Sure gives a whole new meaning to, “Cat Nap”.

  12. aketarak says:

this is so photoshopped, its not even clever.

    • Corina says:

Nope! It was scanned from a 22-year-old picture. The only “photoshopping” was trying to erase the pinholes in the print.

      • Corrie says:

When I first looked at the pic I thought, cute kids, nice crib…holy smokes a cougar!! (I believe the pic it is real.) It just made me gasp. Do you remember having this pic taken??

  13. I'm sure it's already been said. says:

One of these things is not like the others…

  14. Corina says:

She was definitely a real live cougar. And no, it’s not photoshopped. We have a series of pics of us with her, but this one looked the most … awkward.

  15. Washingtongrl says:

aketarak, as a close friend of the girl in this photo (Corina, who is now 25) I can assure you this is no photoshop creation. If you had grown up anywhere near this home you would understand how not surprising this was for that family. This girl has a nack for animals and they naturally gravitate to her. At any given time growing up they had rabbits, cats, dogs, frogs, birds, etc. Though I didn’t know her at the time this pic was taken it really comes as no surprise. If I remember correctly she can be seen riding this cougar in another photo.

  16. wtf says:

This is what happens when mom goes to the grocery store.

  17. Kimberlee says:

I too am a close friend of Corina, and only wish I knew here and her brother when Sadie was a part of their life. You may be freaked out by the thought of a cougar in a crib with kids, I’m just plan jealous.

  18. Washingtongrl says:

Me too Kim! We need to hang out again!

    • Michelle says:

      You are awesome!!!!!

      • Ruth says:

I totally believe it, but….we still need more details?! Why do you have them? Are they pets? Do you have an exotic animal park? Did they just stumble into your house? So curious!

        • Corina says:

          Ruth –
This is what my dad says about the encounter, since I have trouble remembering the details. :)

Sadie was owned by a man from Portland Ore. She was raised from birth and very well cared for. She easily jumped into the crib for the shot. She liked it in there and didn’t really want to get out. Sadie did a few of the old Mercury Cougar commercials on tv back in the late 70’s. The photo was taken in 1988.

  19. mama3 says:

forget the cougar, that crib is awesome! where can i get one?

  20. Droog_Dionne says:

I am so jealous of you right now! Amazing photo. Thanks for sharing it.

  21. ShannonRae says:

    What?

  22. dude says:

    cradle-robbing cougar. typical!

  23. Liz says:

Corina, I knew when I saw that that it was you! To funny!

  24. graphicartist2k5 says:

yeah, nothing at all wrong with putting two little kids in a crib with a cougar……..

  25. Bree says:

my little brother had that exact crib… o.o

  26. Ryane says:

Kinda looks like my house did when I was younger! I was forever bringing home something to raise. I raised everything from squirrels to tigers. My poor parents still have remnants of those days…they have my macaw while I’m in the Army! Sorry Mom & Dad I promise I’ll get him soon!! Good times, Corina too bad we were on opposite sides of the continent.

  27. Sharon says:

Are you kidding me? What’s next….putting the baby in with the Boa?
