Yeah, looks like the curbside debris I saw in some neighborhoods after the Hashville flood of May 2010. This family looks quite happy, but it was truly sad for me to drive through some areas and see people’s entire lives piled up on their front yard. And Brandon, if this was from the flood of 2002, why does the date stamp say ’98 1 30?
Realtor: “uumm…..i beg to differ! I said the house had wood paneling, a new water heater, and shag carpeting……i never said they were INSIDE the house.”
They are building a time machine bunker for the Y2K. The thing on the right is meant to store beans, and on the left you can see a Flux Capacitor just in case they need to move to a safer time (powered by Mr Bean Fusion).
Um, more than likely, they happened to notice this dump while they were walking/driving by, and thought it would be funny to get a picture in front of it.
I totally agree. They are dressed nicely and clean, they weren’t cleaning up or renovating. Probably stopped to take a photo at the neighborhood hoarders house.
Looks like they are renovating their basement and hauled out several hundred pounds of crap, including an oil tank and a water heater. Might have been better to pose for the pic at the time right after they finished in the sweaty nasty clothes they were wearing, but maybe it was dark. I hope they yanked off that nasty yellow vinyl siding the next weekend. There might be a brick house under there.
By the looks of the picture, this debris is from a recent home renovation. The large ovoid tank is a heating oil tank (for a boiler or furnace), and the cylinder on the left of the pic may be an old clothes washer. The rest of the debris appears to be wood (studs/joists, etc.), doors, drywall, etc.
Not that big of a deal or awkward, really.
I think they’re renovating their basement. The kids all pitched in and had a blast tearing down the old wood. They carried out the old fuel oil tank and rusted-out water heater and dumped all the debris on the lawn. Dad and teenaged son will later heft it into the pickup truck for several trips to the dump. This family is proud of its hard work! Not awkward, applause is called for!
Realtor: “Mr and Mrs Abernathy, I think you are going to like this next little place. It’s, some would say, a fixer-upper, but I think it has potential. Notice the vaulted ceilings, here, there, and next to the water heater. Shag carpeting through-out the debris, I mean house, and in the neigbor’s shrubs. That hole? That is the sunken den I told you about. It actually is sunken, literally. Now if you’ll walk this way, we’ll cross the street and see the master bedroom. And again, the address is 1530 Tornado Alley.
Hey, all the kids are in the same place at the same time looking at the camera and smiling. They’re all clean and fully clothed (yes, in period clothing, but still all covered!) This would be considered a huge victory for most parents!
Its actually the casing for the fission reactor core of a 671RT russian sub. Its likely that it is not to hazardous in it’s current state, though how this family got ahold of it, well that’s beyond me.
I have never been to New Jersey but sure hear a lot of ribbing at their expense. Is it really that bad? Doesn’t make me want to go on vacation there anytime soon.
Jersey is a very nice place. My guess is, this family just sold their house, and, after cleaning out and packing up, are taking one last picture in front of the house.
As a native of New Jersey I get tired of all the NJ slams. As is the case with most states there are beautiful areas and dumpy places. If you judge NJ by what you see around Newark Airport it doesn’t leave a good impression. But go further west and its horse country with sprawling farms. Don’t judge the Jersey shore by the TV show. Some of the beaches are prettier than others.
Agreed. I’m from PA and vacationed in Jersey for years and loved it. I can give you 4 quick reasons for the bad rap–1. Jersey drivers-they ARE the worst i’ve come across. 2. The toxic-waste dumps. 3. Some snooty New Yorkers think it’s the minor-leagues. 4. The true idiots, especially the ones whose names rhyme with “cookie” and “hike”, on that TV show.
Of course the could still be a “Jersey” family now living in Florida.
But I agree Sally. We went to Jersey for vacation once and it was a really great place.
My guess is they are Canadian. ONLY in Canada are you allowed to wear socks/sandals without ridicule. But don’t take my word for it. Ask the next person you see wearing this where they are from.
Other than this, Canadians are great.
Actually, true Canadians don’t wear socks with sandals. In fact we don’t wear socks until at least October or the first snowfall, whatever comes first. It is the Euro Canadians ( German / Austrian extraction) in Canada that wear sock with sandals, and yes, we mock them!
This may be the cleanest the yard has ever been and they wanted to capture the moment. Or maybe the tornado that hit the next street over dumped this stuff in their yard, leaving their house untouched. Either way, still awkward.
I believe this is in Minnesota actually, near Canada, in the summer, after a flood. I imagine this photo was snapped after church one day. The 90′s were so good to everyone!

I want to marry the son. Socks and sandals? YES PLEASE!
HAHA I know these people!
Did they take this before or after locating the black box & the fuselage?
I actually know this family. This was from the flood of 2002 where half the city I grew up in flooded and a ton of people lost their houses.
Socks-with-sandals graduated in 2004 with me.

Haha is your timestamp right 100% of the time? i know this family too.. graduated with the younger girl in 2009 and this was for sure a post-flood pic
Is this family assembling or deassembling a DC-9 as a “weekend project”?!
But their grass is green!
Also starring: Redd Foxx, Demond Wilson, LaWanda Page, Whitman Mayo…

I smell another new Hoarders episode!!!
And the winner of the neighborhood recycling project IS…..
Um, more than likely, they happened to notice this dump while they were walking/driving by, and thought it would be funny to get a picture in front of it.

Those shorts are STILL worn today, by St Louis Cardinals fans visiting Chicago for a Cubs game. It’s like they’re REQUIRED or something.
We wear shorts like that to make Cubs fans feel not so bad for losing
They are looking happy because they appear to have walked away unscathed from the horrendous plane crash behind them.
i’m impressed that they got all dressed up to do their home renovations…
“Let me tell you a little story bout a man named Jed….”

This family often feels down in the dumps.
and roadkill!! I am fairly certain that is a dead bird by the curb. Damn….
hahaha….dinner!
Looks like dead fish to me. Either way, lol HUH?
Who says sandals with socks doesn’t rock?
Skylab burned up in the atmosphere… Right.
So that is where NASA stashed the surplus gear after canning manned space flight.
They look so happy, they must have just finished cleaning the house & yard, and are waiting for the garbage truck to come take it all away!
That is one way to get rid of kids… most wait till they go to college.
If awkward photos were that yard, I would toss my junk into it… wait…
What happened to the pic from yesterday…the one with the couple and the daughter standing far in the background?
That’s what I was wondering. Its disappearance is awkward!
Ok good. I thought I was the only one who saw it.

98? is that 1998 or 1898?
Which one of us wouldn’t take a picture of a septic tank in our front yard if a tornado dropped it there, huh? Huh? Yeah, that’s what I thought.
(also, the yellow siding is also kind of awkward)

I don’t see anything awkw….ohh. Dude on right is wearing SOCKS with SANDALS.
Amen, Tara!

I love how dressed up the girls are. This is a proud family moment!

LOL!
WIN.
LOL!!!! That is great!
buh-domm-PSSSHHHHH!!!!!
I was totally humming that song to. Read yours and lmao.
love it. now, totally stuck in my head.
I think its artsy….I just have to tip my head a little sideways….
What is that giant metal thing???
Fuel Oil Drum, usually kept in the basement and connected to a heater. Not a new fangled front lawn ornament
They are so proud to finally be getting a forced air gas furnace instead of the old oil burner!
A fuel oil tank. Lots of us with old homes have them! Hopefully not that rusty…
It is an oil tank. They must have oil heat.
The giant metal thing is an oil tank. I have one in the storage room of my basement and it looks just as ugly there as it does on this lawn.

had it been the 672RTa then we would be looking at a photo of a crater… Just as well…
The winners of the scrap drive contest pose before their haul. Unfortunately they had misread the entry date which was during WWII.
Very nice. Sounds like a Far Side caption.
I think what is awkward about this is the son’s denim shorts with white socks and sandals.
They’re either in or a Jersey family, does that answer your question?
I have never been to New Jersey but sure hear a lot of ribbing at their expense. Is it really that bad? Doesn’t make me want to go on vacation there anytime soon.
We went on vacation to New Jersey a couple years ago and it was great! I don’t know why everyone says such nasty things!

This was taken in Roseau, Minnesota . . . a small town in northwestern MN which is 10 miles from the Canadian border.
Probably not Jersey if the timestamp is correct. Doesn’t look cold enough for January 30th.
Of course the could still be a “Jersey” family now living in Florida.
