One year for Christmas I recieved an acid washed denim winter coat and a new watch that was blue leather that looked like acid washed denim. I remember going to my in-laws for Christmas Day dressed head-to-toe in acid washed denim or something that looked like acid-washed denim. I thought I looked great and was secretely hoping my now husband was going to propose that day in front of everyone. Looking at this picture I am almost glad it was several more years before he finally proposed. Thank God this era is over…but I did save the jacket for a good laugh.
OMG I remember when we all looked like that!
I feel like the 80′s just reached out and slapped me in the face.
BAHAHA!
HAHAHAH!!! I am SOOOO glad we have moved on from this decade. Got to be the worst for hair, makeup, clothes and cars…
I think I just saw these people walking down the street (Of course I do live in Kentucky….)
DENIM….moutstaches, mullets, and DEMIN (like the target commercial, in case you dont get it)
studs, lace pockets and DENIM
Well it is QUITE obvious who missed the memo to wear denim and support a mullet. Dad, you are clearly the odd one out.
I’m especially enjoying the white hose the older girl is wearing. I had a teacher in high school just a few years ago that that had the exact same hair as Mom does here. Bless her heart!
I LOVE This! It is hillarious!
No, not just FADED denim, ACID WASH! Ha! I have to admit, as a gal of the 80′s I had hair similar to the girl standing. I also had the acid wash jeans and jacket, just didn’t wear it at the same time.
Looks like someone got a bedazzler for Christmas!
Sad thing is, I still see women with hair cuts like “Mom’s” all the time. They usually have on black jeans and high top basketball shoes to complete the outfit.
I kind of love this. Thank you for sharing it. You were all the height of fashion in the 80s, so forget some of those the not-so-fun spirited comments here. They don’t know what they were missing! When I was the age of the youngest in the pic, I would have been proud of this photo. I do have to wonder what is on dad’s shirt, but the hair and acid wash more than makes up for it.
Am I the only one who thinks that the blonde looks slightly like the first Becky from “Roseanne”? Just a little.
Nope, that was the FIRST thing I thought! I’m surprised there aren’t more comments about it.
Me too! First thought!
My first thought was “She’s Debbie Gibson’s #1 fan”
dad’s hair is quite a bit more acceptable than mine in that era. youngest daughter is a WHOLE ‘nother story. holy cow
At a company event, each employee got a light blue denim shirt. All I could think we we looked like a prison work detail.
Man, people used to look bananas. LOL!
Looks like mom found a giant sale on Toni home perms right before this photo was taken.
Ahhh the Toni! She may have only needed one since they only permed the tops LOL
Frankenbangs almost always bring a smile to my face.
You made me laugh out loud! Did you make that up, or did I miss that fabulous term growing up?
I used to sport the Frankenbangs in all their glory, except when my hairspray turned flakey and they fell, but I’d never heard the term. You changed the mood of my whole day with that laugh. Thank you.
Ooh, risque… the younger girl’s skin is showing through the grommets in her studded acid wash shirt.
Ooh, I didn’t even notice that before! And is there anything more uncomfortable than a denim skirt?
Grommets as fashion statements. I admit that I fell prey to the grommet fascination many years ago.
Hockey hair!
Looks like a poodle convention broke out during a photo shoot
“The holy trinity of awkwardness” – the captions don’t get much better than that.
So many levels of denim! You got your lace-overlayed look, your bedazzled studded look, and what denim trio would be complete without the acid wash! Ok, how many “hair don’ts” can you count? Perms too tight, bangs too short, the obvious mullets and whats with the Carol Burnett “Eunice” hairdo on the 12 year old girl? Pretty sure that look was NEVER in tile for a child, not even in the 40′s!
Looks like the older girl is wearing shoulder pads. uggg. I hated those.
Stone washed denim at that… with the lace, big bangs, aqua net and mullets… bet they had jellies or pointy boots on too and they had purses bigger than they were (to fit the Aqua Net of course)….
OH and the southwest theme too
Not much can detract from lace-adorned denim. But the 1″ bangs come close.
I keep looking from one hairdo to the next to the next, amazed at each one.
Acid washed and perms!! Awesome!
Lol .. that’s not just denim .. or even faded denim. That’s full blown acid wash. LOTS of it.
I believe they call that acid wash denim….
Ah yes, I remember those bangs.
Indiana?
Wow. Just wow.
I shudder to think I grew up in this generation…and came out the other side with a healthy dislike of mullets.
I love how all the girls are lookin to the right and the Dad is lookin to the left of the camera. Makes you wonder what he is lookin at as he doesn’t have a smile on his face like the girls. hmmmmmm
This picture makes me feel very…. blue…. and grayish. It’s actually not a bad picture, but it is very ’80s.
Looks like AFP hit the mother load!
Epic!… Dad looks a little odd with that polo shirt, a leather jacket instead would be awesome!
….and lots of Aqua Net…
Oh not just denim. FADED denim. And a bunch of home perms?
