This looks almost exactly like the stage backdrop for George Carlin’s “Carlin on Campus” stand-up, only I think it was blue instead of pink. Possibly a sky with clouds. I need to re-watch. Of course, he (or the set designer) went the extra 80s mile by having a few extra white 3D shapes in front of the backdrop, too. They had filtered spotlights on them to give them color, and everything. Must’ve been quite a popular theme around 1984.

  2. Jonathan says:

No one else has noticed that those shapes in the background exactly match the old Electronic Arts logo, do a google image search, its there!

  3. Cindy says:

They were definitely ahead of their time!

  4. Neo says:

    Totally tubular dudes!!!!!

  5. Fru Uggla says:

    You’r sooooo cool!!!

  6. Jason says:

I had a Trapper Keeper that looked just like the background.
    I miss the 80s

  7. graphicartist2k5 says:

are these kids from the FUTURE???!?!!?? they MUST be with their pseudo-futuristic eyeware from Ronco!

  8. Sandra J says:

Wait…all this time, and not one — not even *one* — Max Headroom gag? Because to me, they look like poor little refugee orphans from that alternate universe.

    • Avi says:

Thank you!! The second I saw this picture, I thought, “Well, how ’bout that. All this picture needs is Max Headroom in the background and it’d be perfect!”

  9. Julia says:

    Devo-spawn!

  10. It's me! Dee!! says:

Mmmm hmmm, well one thing I gotta give ‘em – the concept is really well thought out.

  11. fireflight says:

Ahh… The future ain’t what it used to be…

  12. hannah says:

    original shutter shades

  13. lisabeth says:

These kids are probably in their 30s now. Maybe their parents have been forgiven? As they said back then, “NOT!”

  14. I need one of each of those glasses. Yesterday!

  15. Rudy says:

The future’s so brightly pastel colored, I gotta wear shades.

  16. All was well and good till the tank from Battlezone squished those poor kids.

  17. DEVO 2.0 was really really bad.

  18. Q: Are we not children? A: We are DE-VO!

  19. No Capes says:

There is so much awesomeness in this photo that some one needs to open a window to let some of it out!

  20. Jenny says:

    She blinded me with science!

  21. Lisa Shafer says:

Well, because these are kids, it’s only an amusing photo. To be truly awkward, it would need adults in those glasses standing in front of the geometry bulletin board set-up, and looking thrilled with it. THAT’S a photo I’d really want to see. :)

  22. ChiFlute says:

I love that they color-coordinated with the geometric shapes in the background. Haha. So awkward.

  23. Peter says:

That is the coolest family photo, EVER!!!!

  24. Amice says:

    We are Devo.

  25. Sharlee says:

I love the 80s view of the future. Everyone will wear turtlenecks and crazy sunglasses and there will be giant shapes lurking in the distance…

  26. kat says:

Nothing says the 80′s like bold colors and geometric shapes. I hope they held on to those totally trippindicular shades because they are totally awesome, and for some odd reason, back in style.

  27. BytchEPoo says:

This is awesome!!! Clearly mom and dad were Devo fans….or Kanye fans (white glasses).
