Never ash on Grandma.
(submitted by Kristin)
I can’t decide which is funnier, the comments or the photo itself!! It sure would help if the tears would clear so I could keep reading…!
Ok that looks like strawberries and somehting green in the glass. But WHY is there a seashell in that pan of what looks like chicken a dressing? This picture is so messed up!
The green things are cut-up limes, probably grown in the backyard. Delicious!!!
Grandma is a little person.
Seriously… this photo is so disturbing.. on every level! Is that a shell in the casserole? WHAT is in the wine glass?! Is the guy calling 911? No, he’s helping her flick her ash on the bread plate. Anyone else get the feeling that Hunter S. Thompson might be about to walk into the shot at any moment? Ouch, my aching head.
Fear and Loathing in My Kitchen. 🙂
Strange AND Awkward
Everyone’s assuming that’s Grandma- what if that’s the little wifey?
The little wife as in the REALLY SHORT little wife?
It’s a still from the sequel Harold and Maude 2: Palm Beach Antics
Laughing very very loudly.
If you won’t pose for a picture with grandma … grandma finds a way.
And THIS is the comment that made me laugh out loud! Ah, the persistence of Grandma! 🙂
poor grandma! dude, take a normal picture with her already!
on second thought, this is MUCH funnier. 🙂
“Yes, Grandma … I KNOW you fell off your chair … but I told you, I’m ON THE PHONE!!!”
I keep coming back to this photo as well. I am hoping for an explination. I cant get it out of my head!
So, Roger finally drank Grandma under the table!
I’m in tears….thank you!!!
Lisa, that’s fricken hilarious!
I’m kind of liking that bottle opener magnet on the right.
Oh strange, for sure, but PLENTY awkward as well!!
Hey! That woman looks like my grandma!
I keep coming back to this picture. I seriously need to know what is happening here??? What????
Is it just me or does it look like roast beef and green beans floating in the wine glass? Eww.
Scallops are the new compound bows!
I am laughing so hard at these comments, my son is looking at me strange. So so so so funny.
Off to bake some clam shells…and stare at the empty frames on my wall while dreaming of the good ol days when I would hold granny’s head on my lap while she smoked…
The best comment, by far. Kudos, Penny!!
Penny I am laughing so hard I am crying and my son also thinks I have lost it! My boyfriend told me I had to go in the other room,LOL
ROFL! I just keep coming back to this picture…not sure if it is the comments or the picture…I am just drawn…and my family really doesn’t want to look anymore. There loss I say 😉
Oh my, I see I wrote ‘there loss’ when I really meant to type ‘their loss’. Humiliating really…not sure I can show my face here again.
okay, days later i am STILL coming back!! exactly not sure if it’s for the comments or the picture, I guess both are great!
I really want to hear a background story, but I’m afraid it would spoil the randomness of it all.
I think this picture is beautiful. There are so many times in life where what you’re doing is right within specific context and you just forget about how things were to look if someone were to take a picture. It should be an art form to capture such moments.
These comments are epic too
What’s great about this is the scroll down effect from putting it on a website.
“So it’s a guy on the phone. What’s so awkward about tha- ohhhhhh…”
I thought the same thing! I even thought hmmm….he’s not bad looking….what the hell?
I don’t wanna know…I don’t wanna know…
That is scary. What is with the seashell in the bottom of the pan?
how does grandma even fit if she were to sit in her designated seat?! theres no room there between the table and fridge! the awkwardness of it all!
Please get here as soon as you can. She has fallen and cannot get up.
Are they inside or outside? Isn’t grandma uncomfortable?
That is the oddest picture I have ever seen…
From a Cape Codder, those are scallop shells, not clam shells, but needless to say, it is still weird. Also, what is grandma looking at? And, I know for a fact that if my grandma did that, it would be near impossible for her to get up. haha. The poor woman.
I have that same bottle opener… I dont remember where i got it though
They have em at the Dollar Store.
I think Granny is smoking too, maybe he’s flickin’ the ashes for her, dunno. Also, that’s a fridge, not a wall.
Dude… if it was a fridge why put a table up against it???
That just makes the pic more awkward than it already is! LOL
But that is a fridge! Check out the magnetic bottle opener stuck to it! LOL
you are assuming that a bottle opener has to go on a fridge. I’ve never seen one anywhere else, but I’ve never seen somebody with a ninety year old’s head in their lap like that either.
The reason the table is up against the fridge is they extended the table in a very small suite for a special occasion meal, hence the clams au gratin and sangria.
Hello, Grandpa? You wanna come over and get Grandma? Yeah, she’s trying to hide under the table again, but her cigarette smoke gave her away…again.
People, People.. Plates are not ashtrays and ashtrays are not plates.
(And grandma looks waaaaay too comfortable there.)
those aren’t clams, they’re scallops
the background looks like a marina, i think that’s a ship on the right side
It looks like a Twin Peaks dream sequence.
Is there an echo in here?
hahaha good combo
Ashing on Grandma’s face = Party Foul.
Who’s he talking to? It’s as if everyone has settled in for a long, comfortable “grandma’s in my lap” conversation–an 8-cigarette conversation.
OMG classic comment!! Love it!
Is he holding the smokes for her while she smokes? Such a considerate grandson.
He’s not that considerate–he’s giving her the burned end to puff on.
what else can be said…other than it takes some serious smokers to use a PLATE for an ashtray.
Just when I thought my family was “abnormal”.
It looks like a dream sequence from Twin Peaks.
5 smokes in the plate
1 in the hand
2 to go.
This is, by far, the best comment on this photo.
What is that dish in the front? Baked sea shells?!? The more you look, the weirder it gets…
Ahhhh yes………brings back memories of Grandma Bonnie’s baked sea shells
They’re baked clams it looks like. And I’m guessing the drink is sangria. Thats the fridge in the background. It probably is florida, and this old lady escaped some retirement home and starting knocking them back. He’s on the phone with the cops and they took this picture for evidence of her behavior.
Good one, Coco! 🙂
I subitted this picture and that really is the best comment. No such luck though….. we have to keep her. Ha ha
LMAO at Kristin. I want to hang out with your family.
I know this picture was taken in Florida because I too have that same dolphin-in-a-bottle opener hanging on my kitchen wall!!!
Oh… Now you are scaring us!
That isn’t apple strudel, if you look closely, there are CLAMS on it. It’s a CLAM strudel. Good God.
I believe that is a SCALLOP shell, not just an ordinary clam, so the meal was tres exotique!!!!
Those are clams but that is not strudel it’s clam parmigiana
I now have tears in my eyes thinking of clam strudel!
I think I threw up a little…
Oh my gosh, that is freaking HILARIOUS! Clam Strudel. Wonder what the Iron Chef would do to that submission?
It’s been over 12 hours, and I’m still laughing at Clam Strudel. That’s a GREAT name for a teenage girl garage band.
What the heck is in the glass? Looks like red and green peppers! Ewww
I would say the remains of Sangria.
It’s wine with fruit in it.
Everclear and Fruit Punch.
Is that Grandma’s picture on the wall behind the empty chair?
I was thinking/ the same thing!
Well… I was going to say something but Rich took the words right out of my mouth 🙂 And yes… anytime grandma’s head is in your lap while you ash in her face that is awkward.
Aside from the main scene, my eyes are drawn to the empty photo frames on the wall…
Ahahahaha! Great observation!
WALL…I think it’s the fridge!!! Look at the magnetic tropical resin bottle opener!! LOL! Maybe there’s another sea shell in the resin, and not only in the food???
I think we have have a bigger theme going on here!
I noticed that too. When someone dies, does Grandma just take the pictures out and leave the empty frames on the fridge?
Kristin, we desperately need the back story on this one. Puh-lease share.
Ok, ok. This was Memorial day at my parents house and that is my brother and our Grandmother NANA. This was after a long day of drinking at my parents house. My brother was playing guitar prior to this making up the words to songs about all of us at the table. After that he offered Nana a scalp massage which started with her sitting up and ended up as you see it…..
They were both smoking cigarettes, and yes he was holding it for her to smoke at that time.
Yes, that is SAngria, but nobody guessed right about the casserole dish. That was actually a Flip flop cake my Mom had made and then died coconut flakes the color of sand and put shells in to make it look like the flip flops were on a beach.
I forgot I posted this and never mentioend it to my brother. One of his friends saw it and called him and he called me hysterically laughing about all the comments. So, there you have it, there are worse pictures from that day believe me.
I can’t tell which is funnier- the back story or the photo!
Kristin, your awesomeness for posting this knows no bounds.
can I come to your next family party? Your family seems like great fun. Grandma will have many great memories. More pictures please.
Oh my gosh! I had to come back to this pic to see if anyone actually gave the background story. Thank you so much…sounds like more fun than my family!
Yes, I’m still checking on this photo almost a year later.
Nothing says Friday night like a few smokes, mojitos, apple strudel and grandma sprawled out over 3 dining room chairs resting her head in your lap.
Hate to be picky, but that is not apple strudel. I think it is seashell au gratin.
Hate to be picky, but that is not a mojito. I think it is Sangria.
Stop being so picky! Next comment will be “grandma is actually only sprawled out over 2 dining room chairs, not 3.”
Not so sure about the other picky points, but it’s a fairly important point about the seashell in the dish.
No Rick, you are making an assumption that _is_ his grandma…
Thank you!!! That was great!
Hate to be picky, but gramma is actually crammed under the table, not sprawled out.
Hate to be picky, but I think that’s Everclear and Fruit Punch.
THAT made me laugh out loud. It also would explain a great deal about this photo. Thanks for being picky!
He is smoking, however. Good call there. Chin up, Rich.
i just fell off the couch!
Hate to be picky, but I think that’s Grandpa.
And nothing makes me laugh like your commentary! I am CRYING right now! Please stay with us. Please.
I don’t even know what to say.
This picture makes my head hurt.
