I love the Indianapolis skyline! Ah! My favorite city! Go ahead, you can say how lame I am. I’m okay with it…
Not lame! Indy’s a much nicer city than people give it credit for!
Not lame! I have lived there my whole life and still get chills sometimes when I see the skyline! It is a great city…but I must say I don’t know if standing on the interstate is the best idea. I usually drive pretty fast around that split.
Awkward? I think not… I’d like to think this puts a face (or in this case “faces”) to who is keeping the next mile of I-65 clean! Thank you Jim and Beatrice Wheeler of VFW Post 341 out of Chicago…er I mean Indianapolis!
OMG this made me laugh so hard.
Best. Comment.
This was the only one to make me laugh out loud.
I’m from northern Indiana, and was just in Indy a couple of weeks ago, so I got a real bang out of this!
What happened to our house? It was right here when we left.
best!
Even if it’s not Chicago, it would technically be the Willis Tower now.
But all this nitpicking kind of takes away the humor of it all, doesn’t it?
Times are tough, Grandma & Gramps having to hitchhike to go see their grandkids. Well, always better to hitchhike in pairs.
Got it. It’s Indianapolis. Obviously you would take 65 North to GET to Chicago.
The obvious question is, where the hell is their car? Why are they standing on the side of the road? Who decided this was a good place to take a picture? Was this photo site so special that it was worth risking their lives? Weird and awkward and funny.
yes jennifer, sears tower is in chicago, but that pic is taken in indianapolis. trust me… drive by those signs everyday.
And the reason they said the Sear’s Tower comment is not because of the city in the background but because of the sign they’re standing under. No one ever said the city behind them was Chicago.
Their minds say south but their hearts say north
FTW
I told you! You should’ve put gas in the car at the last stop. But no, you had to see how far into the red the needle would go!
Back when hitch hiking was safer for the elderly….
soo funny how many commenters are freaking out about it being Indianapolis and not Chicago =)
That’s the last time Grandma and Grandpa mouthed off in the car-I had no choice but to leave them on the side of the road. I hope they learned their lesson!
It appears that nobody explained to them that they need to stick out their thumbs if they hope to get a ride.
Wait, are you guys saying this is Indianapolis??
I bet it’s photoshoped. I can’t belive this is Indianapolis.
The caption for this shot is priceless, thanks AFP!
If they are on the side of the road without their car, who is taking the picture?
“And then the aliens set us back down here…”
You all do realize that there’s a sign above there heads that says Chicago, right? Which is where the Sears Tower is located…
Thank you. Sheesh.
Yeah, there is a sign for Chicago, but its about 90 miles away north on I65, from Indianapolis. This was taken from I70 heading west near downtown Indy.
and you do realize that there are a lot of interstate signs that point you in the direction of other cities, right? so if, say, you were at I-70 west on holt rd. in indianapolis the sign would say “St. Louis” even thought it’s 228 miles away…or…get this…the sign in east st. louis that say…”indianapolis”. Crazy, huh?
But if this WERE Chicago, you’d be able to SEE the Sears Tower. It’s huge. And downtown Chicago is way bigger than what you see in this photo. Hence, Indianapolis, like all the other posts above have confirmed (even though I’ve never been there, but I did live in Chicago for a while).
Ha ha!
As a resident of Indianapolis, I’ve driven under those signs many times. 65 is the major interstate that goes through Indianapolis up to Chicago. So that’s just letting travelers know to get on 65 if that’s where they’re headed. But this is most definitely Indianapolis IN. At no point in time, on 65 can you see Chicago from the interstate.
Um Yea Jennifer…We do realize that. That sign is letting you know that 65 N takes you to Chicago…only you will be on it for about 4 more hours before you get there. This is Indy.
And the reason they said the Sear’s Tower comment is not because of the city in the background but because of the sign they’re standing under. No one ever said the city behind them was Chicago.
lol, yup. That is definitely not the Chicago skyline. Plus Michigan “Ave” and Ohio St. intersect. Awkward!
Actually Michigan St. and Ohio St. do not intersect – they run parallel (E-W). Michigan Rd. however eventually turns into West St. which does intersect with Ohio St. There is no Michigan Ave. in downtown Indy. Are you thinking of Mass Ave?
That’s in Indianapolis, not Chicago.
that’s indianapolis, not chicago.
You realize that this was taken in Indianapolis, right?
These two look like they got lost on the way to the Indianapolis 500, and eventually just decided to stop and watch the next best thing.
Great picture…it was taken in Indianapolis, IN though.
George and Betsy take America by storm.
I actually really love this photo. Hehe.
Sears tower? You do realize this is a photo of Indianapolis, right?
Judging by the look of her hair and skirt, I guess this really is the Windy City. I find the lack of traffic odd and unsettling, however. Is this a Chicago from an alternate reality?
That’s actually not Chicago, it’s Indianapolis.
That’s actually Indianapolis in the background…so there’s not even a good landmark (like the Sears Tower) in the picture…what a bummer…
That’s the southside of Indianapolis.
Not a grand skyline, but a nice one, nonetheless!
That is the EAST side of Indianapolis, taken on I-70….
That is so awkward and funny and…not safe!
That’s the I65 / I70 Split in Indianapolis. The tallest building in the shot is the Chase tower, so this must be post 1990.
You wouldn’t be taking a picture of the Sears Tower here, anyway. The skyline in the background is Indianapolis.
And eight presidents later, their collection of Exit 83 photographs was complete. Too bad Ike would never see the commemorative album.
Haha! Love the comment. Who takes a picture staning on the freeway near an exit sign?
um…that’s indianapolis
That’s a pic from Indianapolis, not Chicago, but it sure is awkward — inexplicable even.
Yep, they can officially say they were once somewhere remotely near Chicago!
it is always so sad when someone throws Grandma and Granpa out on the highway instead of just putting them down.
Chicago here we come!
But we’re leaving you here, mum and dad. Ciao!
The Welcome Wagon in Chicago ain’t what it used to be.
Win!
that’s indianapolis and as of this month it’s the willis tower
Actually, that is Indianapolis
yeah, that’s indianapolis
Not to be a stick in the mud, but 10 bucks says these folks have the surname Fletcher. Or possibly Chicago.
This may well be their final picture.
Love the site. …that is Indianapolis in the background.
I was thrilled to see my home skyline in the photo and I ride my bike right under that stretch of interstate several times a week!
That must be Father and Mother Fletcher.
This is the closest they can come to Chicago after that court order!
I’ve been to this area, Not a good place to stand!!
i live on fletcher ave and there is no problem with it, jen!
We can’t ever go to Walmart without Fred losing the car!
this area? its a highway. lmao
I’m SURE we left the car right here!
…LOL. great, that fits. really. hehe
Ma showing a little leg did no good for the hitchhikers, pa’s short shorts did no better, they couldn’t understand why people sped up.
