Reminds me of some of the pictures my husbands family has from their trips…they had 7 kids, so they would all wear the brightest, matching t-shirts they could find so they could be spotted in a crowd. It makes sense in theory, but it also makes for some REALLY strange photos (Think 9 people, all in bright orange, piled onto one of those mini train cars at the park…)
This is so something that my family would have done. But we weren’t rich enough to afford these fancy store-bought tie-dye numbers, we’d have to make our own in the backyard. Show offs.
Tie dye should be worn with caution. Clearly this family like to throw caution to the wind. If I were that teenage girl I would have beat my mother w/ all my “slapper” bracelets for that knot in her shirt and the cuffs on her shorts. Yikes.
I’m sorry but how can anyone think this is ok? Dad’s the only one wearing acceptable sunglasses, and he messed it all up with the hat. Love Mom’s 10″ zipper, no better way to accentuate her slim waistline, and her bangs are turning me on so much. 20 bucks there is a fanny pack on the older sister.
I think every family from the late 80s to early 90s has a photo like this. I know my family has several. Hell, I remember making the shirts with my family.
I love how that one boy is wearing a hat that’s way too big for him so it’s tightened to the absolute smallest size with the looong flap of Velcro hanging off.
My son’s first school (nursery) photo was in a tie-dye t-shirt. They informed us that he should have been wearing a dark, solid color polo or collared shirt… so I asked them, then why did they tell him (a 2yr old) the day before, that he HAD to wear his best shirt? We made the shirt together, so in his opinion, it was the best shirt ever. You aren’t gong to win such an argument with a 2yo – and still have a happy face to photograph – so he wore his tie-dye. They used a (that!) turquoise background and actually turned out very good!
I’m with you, Kathleen! We go on a beach trip every summer with my family, and I tie dye shirts for all of us. We take a family photo in them instead of those dippy pictures with everyone in white. We love ‘em!

Tie-Dye Overkill. Looks ’90′s to me…

Our shirts are soooo bright, we hadda wear shades!

U.S.A tourists???
American’s on vacation – you spot them (or hear them) a mile away…
Aww, that’s a handsome family (except for mom’s bangs). I think the Beatle child is a girl.
She’s wearing earrings.
the BEATLE child
that alone cracked me up!
Ladies and gentlemen, give it up for the 2009 paintball champions!
Willy Wonka tunnel scene… creepy color explosion
Love the mom jeans.
The one little dude looks like the 5th Beatle. They brought him in for Sgt. Pepper.
She’s a chick, by the way, and she grew up to be sexy as hell.
Since I own about 10 tie dye shirts I have much love for this picture!

The tie dye spy family
ok… so the middle boy is rockin’ dad’s sunglasses, while the older boy is rockin’ dad’s hat AND sunglasses…. playing favorites are we???
do these shades make me look short?
cool! How many nights are the Grateful Dead playing!
will they adopt me????
coolest family ever.
The best thing is that they all seem happy and unselfconscious. None of them seem to have a problem with the situation.
Dude ack..Flashbacks…
I know woodstock was 40 years ago. Still….Keeping it real….
LoL.
“No tourists here…just us locals.”
Kudos for raising a teen age daughter who would actually smile in a family photo where she is dressed like the rest of the group.
hahaha too true
My eyes hurt.
Seriously digging the backwards cap kid’s really tightly velcro-ed backwards cap.
It’s so awkward.
What are the two youngest up to there? Hmmm…
MY EYES, MY EYES, THEY BURN!!!!!!!!!
I think every family from the late 80s to early 90s has a photo like this. I know my family has several. Hell, I remember making the shirts with my family.
I’m not sure what is more dated, the tye die or the sunglasses.
Did they eat a bunch of skittles and then go on the tilt-o-whirl?
Backwards Velcro cap kid FTW.
I love how that one boy is wearing a hat that’s way too big for him so it’s tightened to the absolute smallest size with the looong flap of Velcro hanging off.
Well… that’s an explosion of awkwardness right there…
Glad to see the dad’s getting in there with tie-dye-hat-action too
Do you think the kid could get his hat strap any tighter?
you think they dyed those themselves? (not that I can judge…I used to tie dye my socks)
Between the brightly-colored shirts and the sun, the little kid’s retinas had to have been burned out of the sockets!
Family by Ben and Jerry.
Gotta love the Mom Jeans brand capris.
She shops at the same store as the President
Love the way mom has her heart tie dye design tee tied to the side old school style. It just gives me the uncontrollable urge to tease her hair!
I noticed that too, she needs the little clip for scrunching your shirt to the side like that, the one shaped like the heart would match her tie dye!
I think the shirt is tucked in… and she’s wearing a Tie Dye Belt!
Now THAT is stylin!
Bannana Clip!
Aw, no sunglasses for the youngest kid? I just love the rolled up mom jean shorts. Classic.
And what is up with the dad’s hat?
hey, dad worked hard to find a hat that went with the shirt! now, the kid on the right–hat backwards, brown lenses–clearly the rebel in the family…
I can certainly understand the need for the sunglasses!
“Mamas, don’t let your babies grow up to be Deadheads…”
Is the kid in front wearing a Beatle wig? Groovy!
Awesome. LOVE the rolled cuffs on mom’s cut-offs.
These guys sure were rocking the 90′s.
I remember when Tie Dye use to be cool. When I was in like 1st grade.
Oh, please, I have a family photo with at least ten of us in tie dye; from six month old baby to 66 year old grandpa.
So bring it on, tie dye families! We rule!
Oh, please. Send it in!
Let’s see it!

i have a beautiful pic of myself and my two oldest when they were little all in tie dye and with a blue background. It is one of my favorite pics.
The local minor league baseball team wore tie dye jerseys at a recent game and auctioned them off afterwards. i got one.
Oooo. GREAT idea for a school fund-raiser. THANKS!
haha great caption! good job
Who can spot the odd one out??
The little one without sunglasses?
Tha family is crazy for tie-dye, sunglasses, and jean shorts.
and hats!
The title would be funnier if it said “To Dye For”
Exactly what I thought; To Dye For.
Exactly what I thought: To Dye Four?
YES, but there are six of them….
yeah, two dye four…
This has to be due to the proximity to the water. That always explains it.
LOL!! They wanted to be SURE there would be no ambiguity about the fact that they were TOURISTS!
This was 1996 on a Cruise. We are on Catalina Island. My brother made the shirts so we wouldn’t “lose” each other. Pretty cool.
