I know what’s going on here. Mom and kids take up a martial art and dad is disinterested – for a while. Once dad is on board it becomes the coolest thing and the family photo is his idea. He is supremely self-unaware so he thinks he is rocking it.
Hate to sound dumb, but I don’t get the comment, “Somebody here hasn’t been using it *just* for self-defense.” Is it because the teenage boy’s right eye looks a bit black?
Is it scary that I now think my mother had a secret other family in the eighties … and also is a green belt. Also, dad is two belts behind there, pick it up.
I wish I could remember the movie where Chris Farley had the ’stache and glasses just like that. I swear, if dad was sporting about 100 pounds more, he’d be a dead ringer. No pun intended.
i believe he is blocking and punching at once; i too practiced taekwondo with my dad, who also trailed a little behind in the level of belt. oh the memories of being whooped regularly by 200 lb women in spearing gear are flooding back!!!
I can see the conversation they had while picking out their outfits for this picture…
Dad: “Well, green is for beginners, and gold is for kings! RICH kings! So I will wear gold and y’all will wear green.”
Kids: “Haha, okay Dad.”
And seriously, the mom looks just like my friend’s mom. And she’s way scarier in real life. O_O
Actually it depends on who teaches you and specifically the class. For example I’ve done Hapkido and self defense classes for a couple years and that’s how we were taught to tie them.

Dad is a yellow belt – that’s just one grade up from a beginner!
I love your comment on the background behind the picture,,, to funny!
Beware the clenched toe of fury!
HA! The first thing I noticed was that kid’s toe!! Creepy…
CRACK ME UP KUNG TOE FIGHTIN MAKES ME QUIVVER!!!

I have to agree. I didn’t make a big deal out of it earlier because I was so happy there had not been a slew of “photoshop” suggestions.
I think it’s because the youngest is squaring up for a fight with his fists!
I assumed it had something to do with the way dad was holding his fist, but perhaps my mind just goes *there* more than it should
LOL!
I believe it’s because the mother and son’s are black belts and the father is a yellow (much lower in skill).
???
My monitor shows green belts and this is another caption that kinda falls flat.
Oh well, no biggie.
(Not awkward w/ me, for the record)
I thought the comment “using it for something other than self-defense” was meant to describe that the something other is this “cool” photo sitting
tae-kwan-don’t!
Oh snap! I was going to say that.

This family has to be related to the Van Helsings. And I think Mom’s name is Marney – she looks pretty mean!
omg Dad is epic. he wins with that serious pose and sunglasses. yes!
Hey…that cat is fast as lightning.
I bet the dad has more than one “wolf howling at the moon” shirt in his wardrobe.
Well played!

huh??
I think the caption is referring to the kid, who can do the splits.
He can do the splits no problem.
What is dad doing with that arm above his head? Raising his arm since since he’s SURE!

LOL x2
raise your hand if you’re sure!
Dad needs to step it up. he’s behind in his belts!!!
… in fact it was a little bit frightening!
those cats were fast as lightning
with expert timing
It hit me right away: dad is vogueing. Strike a pose!
Is it just me or does the youngest kid have a finger where is second toe should be? Finger toes freak me out.

With declining sales at the beet farm Dwight Schrute decided to teach self defense classes to make a little extra cash.
And he only serves beets for classroom snacks.
that’s hilarious
Sadly, being a former TaeKwonDo Purple belt, not one of them has their belts knotted correctly–supposed to be flat in front!

Meet the new staff at Rex-Kwan-Do – Jimmy and Tammy Scroggs, and their sons Jimmy Jr and Wayne.
Dad’s still wearing High Karate and they love watching Hong Kong Fooey on Cartoon Network
Ha! Thank goodness I wasn’t in mid swallow of my drink!!!
dad has the yellow belt, and thinks shes some type of actor with the shades.. haha epic!
I bet two seconds before this was snapped, Dad did a quick take to the left to check out his pit. Could explain Mom’s expression.
I bet they all joined to “support” teenage boy and now he rues the day he was born.
Older son has that look: “This is not my idea.”
the dad is the funniest
Haha! The little kid doing a split, looks like he’s in pain.
Isn’t this the dude from the ‘guns-n-parrots’ photo?
Looks like the dad is about to do some shockingly mean disco dance moves
LoL, love it!
They got me shaking at the knees….ohhhhh, Im so scared!!! Especially mom, she means business. And what’s up with the toe? I love it!!!
This is odd……………………………….. hahahahahaha! whoa this is awkward i never thought someone would do kung fu with a kid
