Dude, it’s ME!
I totally thought this WAS me for a minute.
I love this photo! You can just feel the pride she feels at wearing that uniform. My own daughter poses for photos just like this when she’s really pleased with herself.
I’m very pleased with this picture.
So absolutely adorable…we were all awkward at that age!
I see nothing awkward about this picture. What a cutie.
omg the JCPenny optical glasses, gloria vanderbilt collection! I thought I was the cat’s meeeooow. Mine were so thick and heavy and my dad used to tease me that Penny’s collected pop bottles to make them. How cute! This is obviously the first Girl Scout pic in our brand new uniform and sash (no badges yet). How excited are we! We’re not a brownie anymore!
All I see is pre-badge enthusiasm and borderline joy. Not awkward at all, evidenced by the fact that most of us wish she lived next door because she’s so cute.
…in an adorably awkward way!
Oh she is a sweetie!
The sash has a life all its own in this photo-and I love the awkward smile and glasses. Bravo, Kim-this is an awesomely awkward photo, and I bet you’re awesomely cool today.
I’m with Liz; I’ve posed for this shot myself. I think it’s adorably awkward!
Totally precious! how sweet!
As the father of two Girl Scouts I don’t find this awkward at all. It’s as cute as can be.
This is a classic! I suspect she is a beautiful young woman who is wearing contacts and camping in the summers with her family today.
I agree. I bet the first thing she got with her first pay check was contacts.
This is a picture where all the family members think is adorable except for the person in the picture, who is mortified by the whole look! Spoken from a former granny glasses wearing brownie whose childhood photos consisted of these kinds of pics!
Granny glasses used to be those little, round wire-rimmed glasses, but John Lennon changed all that! Now the grannies like their BIG frames cuz they can see everything in ‘em.
awwww . . . she’s CUTE!
How could you NOT buy cookies from a face like that!? Socre one for Kim!!
Do 70 year-old Girl Scouts sell fiber cookies rather than Thin Mints?
She looks ready to do the potty dance
exactly what I was thinking – the poor girl has to pee.
I agree. I was drawn to the positioning of the hands. She looks like she had to go TEN minutes ago, and if she were to wait much longer, someone is gonna pay!
Because someone is going to spray!
Wonderful! This picture needs to be framed and on a wall. What a great little girl! I’m with Rosie, I bet she grew up to be awesome.
Aw!! I think she’s adorable! I just love the blonde hair, the Fearless Fly glasses, and that little grin that says, “If you don’t buy my cookies, I’ll kick your ass”
If you were near-sighted in the early 80′s, this was the go-to style! I had glasses just like this – my mom even came across them and put them in my stocking this past Christmas – memories!!!!
Yep, near-sighted in the early 80s. I can’t even express how happy this picture makes me. So awesomely awkward!! I smile because I can relate!
Adorably awkard…thanks for sharing!
if they only had a badge for awkwardness, most brownies would earn it easily.
Awww! *hugs* She’s adorable!
As a Girl Scout leader, I love this pic! I may share it with my troop!!!
She’s so CUTE! I bet she was an awesome Scout.
wow, this could have been me, i had the same gigantic glasses
Same here! The only reason I know this isn’t me is because I quit Girl Scouts before I got to that outfit.
My gigantic glasses were baby pink. They would have gone so well with Scout uniforms – not!
OMG… I had pink glass too… LMAO
Me too. Giant pink glasses and if that wasn’t awkward enough I had one of those strechy things that held them on my head. And it was day glo paint spattered pattern. And yes, I was stylin’, I tell ya! Hahah!
I had a glasses strap too. I think they were called croakies. Mine was plain purple though, I would have loved a neon splatter one!
wow! looks like my girl scout pictures. i had the granny glasses, mine had the bows on the bottom and they curved up! what the hell! why did i think that was cool?! i still have my brownie sash. me and this girls should make some Smores together ! :0
lol, actually kind of cute!!!
Kim is probably a supermodel now!
This isn’t awkward, Kim’s just a cute kid — but I’m glad it’s here — it’s completely adorable! If this was one of my kids, I’d probably have it framed on the desk, we all want to pinch those cute cheeks! BTW, yesterday here in the UK we had our 100 years of girlguiding church service. Perfect timing on the pic! Go girlguides and girlscouts!
We’re moving this summer and this will be our council, lol.
Oh, bless her. How can anyone not love that face?
LOL…that sash is about three times bigger than what she needed. Too cute.
Oh bless her! Too cute!
Awwww!!! I just want to hug you Kim. You would have been my bestest friend at brownies (or girl scouts). The picture tells so much about the golden soul behind those glasses and that gorgeous smile.
This is absolutely precious. My 4-year-old daughter is just dying to wear this uniform in a few years.
i love her!
I’d really like to see what she looks like today…
Go Cactus Pine Council!
Is that the gummy bear girl from the credits of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off?
I just choked on my own tongue.
“You wanna gummy bear? They’ve been in my pocket all day.. they’re all soft and warm…”
I was just thinking that.
It definitely makes sense.
Whoa, she/this looks so much like my mother it’s eerie.
This is darling!!!
hahaha This is kind of adorable! I feel like she grew up to be a really awesome person.
This looks so much like my first Brownie picture. I even had the same grandma glasses. Why were grandma glasses on little girls so popular in the 80s?
I think optometrists were afraid we might miss the TINIEST detail on the periphery, so we had HUGE lenses
. I’m still getting over the emotional scars, but I”m not as brave as Kim, that’s for sure!
She’s adorable!
I love the glasses… that is what totally nailed it for me… she looks like a girl Minkus from Boy Meets World… Why did people think that those glasses were ever cool?
She totally does!!!
I loathe the fashionable glasses of today (those square, heavy plastic, skinny frames that sometimes come in bold colors). UGH!, the next generation is gonna have a heyday making fun of those.
I swear Joey, I have been thinking the same thing for a couple of years now!
You can’t even see as well through them. There is too much frame and not enough lens. Luckily, it seems like frames are starting to get larger again. (I’m judging by what the celebrities are wearing.)
The 80s were a scary time for people who wore glasses. My mother and sister both big frames back then. *shudders*
Hugs to Kim! Thanks for sharing
Too cute
As a Girl Guide leader in Canada, I love pics like this!
