It doesn’t seem awkward to me…maybe because it’s pretty much every dance picture from the 80s. A lot of schools have adult classes and I used to love that my mom participated. I even had that costume, just in green!
Yeah, it’s only moderately awkward to me…I take adult dance classes at my kids’ studio. When my adult classes have performed, my husband’s always taken a photo or two of me with our kids in costume (we don’t perform together, though-back to individual classes for that), and they actually tell me they think it’s cool I worked up the courage to do it (major stage fright right here ).
I’m pretty sure this is the same mother/ daughter in ‘razzmataz’ on june 3rd 2009. I was looking at archives and just thought they looked too similar, the redundancy makes it even more awkward
Ah, yes, the mother-daughter jazz performance photo, complete with shiny, sparkly 80s outfits. If I recall correctly, my mother opted out of the paired photo option, leaving the oh so awkward solo picture of me “smiling” in prominent view in family photo albums while her solo shot somehow managed to get buried. Our costumes had a gold theme rather than hot pink, though. Nothing like seeing your mom in gold lame shorts (a la Richard Simmons) with a matching hat with a little net. (As I said, this photo has not seen light in many, many years, and I don’t blame her.)
Mom and daughter both took seperate dance classes……but met up for the photo shoot!! I actually think this one is sweet and not horribly awkward. All out-dated dance costumes make us cringe but the photo, itself, seems sweet. Momma wanted to dance, too!
That … headdress … on the child is quite … eye-catching? If that is the term I want. Mom sure has a great figure though. You don’t get that sitting around playing your Wii.
I’m going to go with mother and daughter both taking dance at the same academy. My eight-year old girl is in dance classes, and when they have a recital every girl involved has at least one outfit this goofy.
I know i had this exact outfit when I was a child. I kid you not, right down to the hat. And it wasn’t a costume, it was a school outfit that I had to wear. I know I got a pic of somewhere…

that is awkward
That was the very first thing that I said, and planned on commenting……I think “awkward” is truly the only way to describe this…..
What, no Jazz Hands?!
my thoughts exactly! I feel cheated!
The Jazz hands are ‘implied’
This picture could use more jazz-hands.
Curse you Craig!
*shakes tiny fist*
Sometimes I doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion.
Great DD reference.
That is such an obscure qoute!!! Why was the second movie so bad?
WIN!

I don’t have kids, but I take an Adult Hip Hop class…and we do recitals too! It’s really alot of of fun to dance as an adult. My class has a blast!
Well, there you go. The entire decade of the ’80s was awkward.
Incredibly so, yes.
If by awkward, you mean
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks, Andy Bernard!
I could NOT AGREE MORE!!!!!
oh GOL
i think mom is getting pissed that her little star won’t shine bright enough.
“Missy, if you don’t smile like you mean it, I swear, I will wear your little butt out as soon we get out of this K-Mart!!!”
It’s Little Miss and Adult Mrs. Sunshine.
LoLove it!
Isnt this the same girl and Mom from the fringe costume picture?
That was my thought too. The girl sure looks the same!

Mom and daughter dance probably. And I’ve seen these costumes recently, so not 80’s throwback
I didn’t know Susan Sarandon danced as well as acted.
Ohhhh, Janet!
Dammit – I love you…
It’s just a jump to the left……………………
And then a step to the right
What a guy. Makes you cry. Und I did.
Little Mrs. Sunshine?
Wait? Isn’t this the same girl who’s holding the goat in the picture below?!?
I think this picture is sweet.
Sadly you know that picture is huge, and hanging above a fireplace… So everybody can feel welcome, and awkward at the same time.
Talk about your stage mothers…
The girl’s leggings look modern but is that hat even from this planet?
This is MY MOTHER & I circa 1987 or 88. ENJOY.

need more cowbell tooooooooooo!
I’m laughing!!
It’s the picture title that does it for me! Read it and laughed out loud! SO GREAT!
It’s Sarah and Piper!

you said wii!
Well, no one looks happy to be in this photo.
Kid looks annoyed that mom made her wear that and mom looks annoyed that the kid is annoyed…
From the creator of Toddlers and Tiaras?
Sparkle Motion!!!
