Haha, that is so awesome! That’s always been one of my all-time favorite pictures on this whole website, so seeing an update is great! Love it.
Glad Ian wasn’t too traumatized by that.
I like this photo also. The second picture answers the question the first picture asked, which is, will the child live through his baby years with such neck-holding going on?
I LOVE this picture. I would love to frame this too and put it on my desk at work. They do pics like this in high school year books. Pics of kids when they were friends when they were small and then in the same pose in high school. Thanks for submitting the pics!
My hair was black when I was a baby too, but changed to blonde when I got older, its now mousy brown. My mothers was black when I was born and now thanks to age its a lovely white. Probably the same happened here.
I just hope some of these other people who had pictures featured here do not decide that they need to take and submit revisiting the awkwardness photos. Such as the lolcats or that family that had stripped down to their underwear for a family photo.
Dad just got gray and the kid just lost his baby hair and it came in lighter. Happens almost all the time. Both of my kids were born with lots of black hair and they are both little blondies now. 12 years…..things change.
Except for the fact that this picture was taken in 1983 and that is a baby girl not a little boy… how do i know this??? Because that is me and my dad!! He still has black hair and mine is still dark brown!
At first I thought the dad was just losing color in his hair but then I noticed in the first picture the kid had black hair and the second picture the kid’s hair is the same color as his dad’s.
I really like these ‘comparison’ photos too! It put a smile on my face to see them. Just goes to show you that holding on to your kid’s neck for just a little bit has no lasting effects.
Ditto! I’m wondering how the hell this photo was taken in ’99 – it looks like it’s from the 70s or 80s at best! My high school photos from ’99 don’t look nearly that bad!
No, no, that’s not old! Old is when you military dh calls you from Korea to tell you he got a new troop that was born the same year you graduated high school!
LOVE these pics…next installment: Three generations of neck handling awkwardness!
I was still at the job I’m at now when that kid was born… and at the time had been there for 14 years. Point my wheelchair in the direction of that old folks home!

This father looks like a continuous source of laughs and positivity. Too bad he’s not mine.
HA!, love it!
Super cute!!! Great photo
Awkward and AWESOME at the same time!!! Love this pic!
I think this is the coolest father/son pic. Looks like that have a great realtionship, and the Dad is lots of laughs. Love it
The look on the baby’s face! lol!!!
If at first you don’t succeed-try try again–every 12 years…
Yeah, was going to say, this one is actually pretty cool. It has a Simpson’s kind of feel to it.
You still look absolutely thrilled to be Ian’s dad! I love these pictures.

They should take this picture every 12 years…it’s great.
The original makes me laugh aloud every. single. time. Thank you AFP.

SOOOOOOOOOOOO adorably funny, I think I have to frame this so whenever I need a smile and a chuckle I won’t have to look far…
AFP, I think we found a new category: Revisited!!! More PLEASE!!
wonderful! I love it.
Handsome boys with a sense of humor. Kudos to you!
Fabulous!!! It sure looks like this family has a great sense of humor and a lot of love for each other…
Thanks for making me smile!
Luuuurve it!!
I assume this father works for Allstate?
You need to take this shot all the way past the awkward wedding shots!! These are great shots, and they really put a smile on my face!!
Thanks for taking the picture and submitting! Thanks to AFP for posting this, absolutely made my day.
Absolutely love the pictures. Dad looks like a very funny, loving, and proud parent in both pictures. Your son is lucky. Thanks for sharing:)

the kid’s head seems to have gotten bigger
Yeah. That happens when you grow from newborn to 12 years old.
Yep. That’ll happen.
Hilariously classic shots!
This photo makes me laugh as much as youtube videos of babies laughing.
Serious question: Dad, is that your hand in the second pic or is your son strangling himself? The hand looks so young.
The father obviously has a great sense of humor, and the son seems to have inherited it, as well. Love both of these photos!
The dad has truly awesome eyebrows.

I hope that when the kid grows up and has a baby of his own he takes a pic like this with him holding the baby’s neck and “grandpa” holding his neck!
That comment was as funny as the photo. Made me laugh out loud.
Totally!
Absolutely fabulous! I love how Dad’s eyes have been more crazy! LOL
Why are they both darker in the first photo? They both have brown hair in the 1999 photo, but blonde hair in the 2011 photo? Why did they lighten up?

Camera lighting?! You can totally tell it is the same Dad though…..that smile is one of a kind

absolutely amazing!!!!!!! I love it!
I would like to encourage more “revisited” photos!! It could be a
Whole new category!
I agree. A series of this kind of photo would be great!
This is just so adorable… so much love for his kiddo! That’s what family is all about.
At first I thought the dad was just losing color in his hair but then I noticed in the first picture the kid had black hair and the second picture the kid’s hair is the same color as his dad’s.
Why you little…!
Loving it!
Awe!!!
This actually made me smile. This is awesome!
Too funny! I expect to see yet another in a few years. These are great!!!
I really like these ‘comparison’ photos too! It put a smile on my face to see them. Just goes to show you that holding on to your kid’s neck for just a little bit has no lasting effects.
You know that now you have to take a new one every 12 years right! We will be watching AFF in 2023 for the next installment
This is so cute! Made my Saturday night:)
so awesome!!!
That child was born when I was in high school *packs for old folks home*
Same here. So why do I still not feel fully adult?
I graduated that year… i’m weeping. But yeah, I think I’m MORE immature now than I was then. Thank god..
p.s. I think this is a great photo.
I graduated six years before the original photo was taken!
Ditto! I’m wondering how the hell this photo was taken in ’99 – it looks like it’s from the 70s or 80s at best! My high school photos from ’99 don’t look nearly that bad!

Wow — Kudos to you on staying with the same company for 25 years already! I think I’ve had about 9854 jobs since I was 16 (I may be exaggerating LOL).
You n me, Jeff! I’d been out of grad school and working for 14 years. Not in the same job, but still in the same workplace today.
Um, that child was born 15 years after I graduated high school, so suck it, whippersnapper! ;p
LOL – “Suck it” and “Whippersnappers” in the same sentence just made my day!
how do think I feel? I had already graduated 16 years before!
I love it!! Priceless
This is hilarious – I actually love these pictures. It’s cute because it’s awkward, but endearing!!
Ditto that!!!!
I love this picture too!
