Maybe he found the glove in the trash and couldn’t resist!! lol!!
The New Born would be 24 years old now. Noting the date on the photo.
This occurrence is so natural and ordinary that perhaps it is we the viewers who think this is awkward are the truly awkward.
Don’t think it’s the newborn that’s considered awkward. It’s the bloody glove on the older brother’s hand.
Is it me or is the mom TOPLESS?
dude she just gave birth. What do you expect her to be in, a business suit?
Yes, I am guessing she is topless to better facilitate nursing her newborn. Skin to skin contact is very beneficial to newborns and babies in general. The hospital where I gave birth encouraged my husband to hold our son with his shirt off since I was in surgery right after.
Well I would hope so, she has just given birth…
Why is this picture not the most awkward photo of all time? A bloody surgical glove, brothers disgusted face, mom holding ruby red newborn…AWKWARD!!!
Is that a baby or a demon she’s holding?
Even the T-Rex on Julian’s shirt looks appalled!
*Like Button* CLICK!! LOL
if Julian was allowed to catch the baby (as is my guess), then i think this is fantastic. how many older siblings get to say “i brought you into this world, i can take you out!” … and be literal?
Haha! Fabulous comment!
I am an OB nurse, and birthing is a messy business. Every one in the room who plans to touch the baby, except mom, must where gloves to protect the baby from infection. Baby comes out bloody, gloves get bloody, we care providers don’t notice blood or exposed body parts. It is the expression on the older brother’s face that makes this pic awkwesome!! And middle-child has just claimed his proper place in the family dynamic. I think these crazy kids are gonna be just fine.
I am also a nurse, have done both OB and NICU. No one has to “where” gloves to protect a baby from infection. The delivering physician or midwife wears sterile gloves during the delivery, both to protect the mother from infection and to abide by CDC’s standard precautions. Other medical personnel wear gloves until the baby has been bathed, but they do it for their own protection, not the baby’s.
* “wear”
Good lord Heidi loosen up!!!!!
Why should I loosen up??? PaulaNancy claims to be an OB nurse but her comment had completely inaccurate information. What is uptight about giving people the real story about gloves and childbirth???
Maybe your hospital or state has a different set of rules on what precautions to take on handling newborns?
Have you ever considered different hospitals in different places might have different policies??? Guess you have worked at every single hospital on the face of the earth….
What are you talking about Paula? The baby (as long as it is breast fed) will basically have the immune system of the mother and shouldn’t be prone to infection. The way you make it sound humans would have never made it as we would have all died on the cave floor still swaddled in the dirty animal hide..
What the heck would breast feeding have to do with the immune system of a just born infant? The infant, at this point, hasn’t eaten anything! And FWIW, before modern medicine many many babies (and mothers) died due to infectious complications in childbirth.
Actually the baby is born with the mother’s immunities. Breastfeeding merely prolongs it.
For the gloves comments….the only people who wore gloves with the birth of my boys were the medical staff in the room. The rest of us didn’t wear gloves obviously. And yes they all played “Pass the Baby”.
Julian just fed his brother’s pet hamster to the dinosaur, his brother is more freaked out than angry because he thought stegosauruses were vegetarians, and the baby is crying because – well, because that’s what babies do!
That’s not a stegosaurus lol
It’s a T-Rex and those would love hamster snacks!
I’m with the kid in the green shirt.
Ewwwwwww
Marni says that is a regulation baby, now come wash up for supper!
LOVE IT!!!!!!!!
I am fine with the mom trying to nurse her VERY unhappy newborn, and if the older siblings were at the birth and wanted to touch the baby…well, okay. What is awkward is the person capturing this exact moment with a photo. (I’m sure the boy wasn’t playing with a dirty glove, come on people!)
The boys are the sons of the doctor…..it was ‘dad & son’ day at work. The lady was actually their Sunday School teacher….oooh, now we ARE getting awkward.
LOL!!!! Funniest comment on here!
If the glove does not fit….
I had the misfortune of seeing this while eating chili. I need some “behind the awkwardness” closure to make it all better.
I’m so sorry, hope you’re OK, this photo is so gross but after reading your comment I almost choked to death laughing!
I just hope he wasn’t the one sewing up the episiotomy! Mom could be in for a big surprise.
…ol DAD could be in for the surprise…
I guess the dad is passed out on the floor.
i’m guessing he’s taking this picture.
I hope the older brother doesn’t get nightmares, flashbacks, or PTSD.
or Postpartum Depression…
lol
Some families save for college and retirement. Others save for therapy…
lol!!
LMAO
Julian looks like a young Dexter.
I read the comments specifically hoping for a Dexter reference….thank you!!!
Oh. Lovely.
Now he’ll have something for “Show and Tell” day in school
I think it’s a great picture!! I have a picture of my then 4-yr-old daughter cutting her baby brother’s cord. She was too young when her sister was born (she was not quite 2), but when her brothers were born (she was 4 and 6), she ASKED to cut both of their cords! She has been in the delivery room with me with all of her siblings and loved it. I don’t think it’s awkward at all! As for the dumb comments about him playing with a dirty glove, I’ve with the few that think he had gloves on to be able to touch the baby as soon as it was born! BTW, said daughter, now 8, was looking over my shoulder and I asked her opinion about the picture. She asked what was on the glove, I told her blood. She says he probably touched the baby as soon as it was born because newborn babies are bloody.
I agree! Maybe, just maybe the kid wanted to wear a glove because everyone else got to. What kid doesn’t like to wear gloves? Then he touched the baby. I invited my daughter to be at my son’s home birth and she declined, which ended up being a good thing because it was an extraordinary long and difficult labor. It’s great when it works out, and great when siblings first meet. This is a funny picture, but what a lovely moment.
For some reason, I just LOVE it that there’s a dinosaur on his shirt. I don’t know why; I just do.
I’m guessing Julian’s older brother did not grow up to be an obstetrician.
Chuckle!
Great pic! I’ve had three kids and they probably made him put on gloves because they knew he was going to want to touch the baby without asking and did it as a germ precaution. Its all facts of life and the second born never fails to shine at the greatest moments! FABULOUS! Btw, did you get a baby sister?
What the bloody hell?
bloody, indeed…
I think this may be a little too awkward even for this website!
Julian, please tell us how it came to be that you are wearing this glove. Did you pull it out of the trash?
is the mom naked?!
She just had a baby. She is likely trying to feed him.
A lot of women prefer to give birth with very little, if any, clothing on. The baby looks to be less than an hour old…I’m sure she’s about to nurse him/her.
I have had a baby but I didn’t run around naked after the fact with children running around and my husband taking pictures
I was buck naked after my first was born, at the nurses request. He needed to be on my skin (preterm). Both my best friend and mother were in the room along with my husband, all while I was naked… and I could have cared less. I just had a baby! Most people, especially those who want to nurse, are naked after birth. I probably was with my second too, but I don’t remember. My kids still see me naked in the shower at 3 & 5.
I think this photo is hilarious. The only thing disturbing about it is where we let our minds wander. I suspect it all actually would make a lot of sense if we knew the full story!
Way TMI…
Melissa, I think your story is awesome. It is people who make things disgusting and perverse. My husbands best friend, my best friend, my husband and the doctors 6 yr old daughter were all in the delivery room with me. I wasn’t naked, but my husbands best friend had to help out a little bit. They thought it was awesome and are very close to my kids. Life is a beautiful thing. Kuddos!!!!
I’m with you. I was clothed (in a gown, anyway) during all 4 of my labor and deliveries. Too many ppl in this world like to “let it all hang out” when they give birth(good example: pic of couple with no pants on in birthing center)..there’s nothing wrong with modesty.
If I would have seen my mother naked, much less giving birth, at this age, I would have had nightmares for the rest of my life. Some might think it’s “neat” but I think it’s horrifying. Yuck.
Seriously? She just pushed a person out of her girly bits. I find it unnatural for a woman to *not* be naked at that time.
Ah, Julian… I wonder what the future had in store for you. Severed heads in the ice box? Maximum security prison cells where FBI agents ask for your help? It’s a mystery as bewitching as that bloody glove.
That is gross. I mean, like, made my stomach turn gross. I think that’s a little much, AFP.
No kids for you, then?
Thats just nasty! noone wants to see a little kid with a nasty bloody glove on. im all for letting kids in the delivery room but thats just to much :-/
I’m with you on this.
Me too…what’s next? The Dad holding up the bloody episiotomy scalpel??
Scissors for episiotomy, IIRC.
The funny part is many of you think the kid was playing with a dirty glove- but I’d bet he was allowed to “catch the baby” and that’s why the bloody glove. lol. eew.
I agree. To me, it looks like he delivered the baby, or at least helped an awful lot!
Yessss lol
DIY Birthing. So simple, a Child can do it!
LMAO!!!
Ditto!!
This is a win! The best caption for the photo.
You wonder what the person that was taking the picture thought? Gee…lets let this kids wear a used latex glove??!! Blech….makes me gag
Julian has just gone from being the youngest to the misunderstood, and usually ignored middle child… and he just would NOT be ignored.
o..m….g. This is seriously disturbing.
Wow! I’m a little disturbed by that picture. :/
Woah! Now that’s something you don’t see every day. I think I’m with the kid in the green sweatshirt — look at his face (and I have had 2 children). Certainly an experiential way to learn about the birth process.
Oh, there are so many things that are disturbing about this photo……..
LOVE the facial expression on the older boy in the green shirt! I feel his pain. Why let your kid put on a dirty latex glove and take a pic of it? It detracts attention from the newborn family member, whom I’m thinking was supposed to be the most important part of the day, not a used latex glove. Weird.
maybe he was helping!
Timmy, you get to pull out the placenta! Yaayyyyy!
BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Good one.
This picture is just wrong in so many ways! Kid playing with a dirty surgical glove, Mom with her top down, newborn baby having a very bad day and the kid in the green shirt looks like he’s fixing to hurl! So, what else could go wrong?
there is nothing wrong with her top being down. The baby was just born, she is likely trying to get him to eat.
mom with her top down is wrong? she’s just given birth to her child and she’s with her family, give her a rest! i bet you think nursing is wrong too, right?
i think the picture is hilarious! two brothers, yet so different! i bet julian was a great kid with a wild imagination
Nothing wrong with the mom having her top down. You can comment on everything else in the picture BUT that. Feeding your baby is a natural normal thing and seconds after birth that is exactly how mother and child should look!
What, should she be wearing her prom dress? Maybe a business suit? WTH – she just had a BABY!
Ohmygod – everyone get the collective stick out of their a**! The OP was just being funny by listing all of odd things about the pic. This is why no one likes Boob Nazis – none of you all have a sense of humor.
Wow, that’s pretty rude.
Exactly!! Based on what some people say here, it’s astonishing they’d even bother to look at this site. Y’all ought to get over yourselves or just go away. Or both.
Seeing the birth (as opposed to just being in the room up by mom’s head) can mess with a husband’s head, and it’s a little gross for a little kid to see. (It creeps ME out as a woman!) But as a society we need to think about breasts for what they’re really for. They are to nourish babies. Radical, huh…
So it’s good for these boys to see them being “used” correctly.
Um, I nursed 4 kids and agree that it is normal and natural, but 1–that child doesn’t appear in any way to be nursing (I’m pretty sure all mine nursed with their mouths, not their ears or their elbows) and 2–I gave birth 4 times (3 with older siblings present) and managed to do so (AND nurse immediately after birth) and didn’t need to do it topless. Just sayin’.
I wasn’t topless for my births, either (even the homebirth), but so what…it doesn’t look like she’s posing for the picture. I don’t think her lack of clothing is why this is considered awkward by some.
I remember when I gave birth to each of my three kids and sometimes the only way to calm them was to have skin to skin contact to keep them warm. I think dad just took this picture at the exact wrong moment or right moment if you ask me! This picture is awesome!
Taking a dump is “normal and natural” too, but that doesn’t mean other people wanna see you do it. It’s called DISCRETION, ppl.
What’s so awesome about this pic? The fact that Julian submitted it! You gotta love it when people talk about themselves in the third person! Yay!
Hey Julian! From one X gener to another…. Doogie Howser ROCKED!!
PS: love the look on older bro. Priceless
Finding your comments of you talking to yourself way too much is even more disturbing than the photo itself.
hahaha AWKWARD!
Oh come on! Seriously? You’re a disappointment Joe! PS is acronym for Post Script. Get it right.
@deedeedeedee: You mean like ***hole Elmo??
