Cone Of Silence - Behind The Awkwardness

“Yes, this is my family. I am the smallest conehead. In a brilliant wave of genius, my mother thought she had come to the ultimate family Halloween costume. She found these smelly, rubber coneheads at a some long forgotten costume shop. We were all a little uncomfortable with it, but with only a few short days until Halloween complete with invite to yearly Halloween party, where were constantly berated and ridiculed for our costumes by this bougie family who seemingly had NO END to there arsenal of elaborate Halloween costume ideas.  So, we went to the party, and after a few dull roars from the crowd of party-goers, the bougie family swooped in to steal our thunder donned as the ENTIRE cast of the Never Ending Story…yep… even Valkor.”

I wonder what year this was. I see rabbit ears on the tv which also has a vcr. The Coneheads movie came out in 1993 but the SNL skits started in 1977. Anyway, it looks like they had fun as a family. It’s a shame that families don’t do things like this anymore.

Grownups who were loving enough to dress up kookie with the kids? How horrible for you!

Whats wrong with those costumes they are simple and funny, in our family we adored the film it’s an underrated classic

My parents met at a halloween party when my dad was dressed as a conehead, using this same smelly, rubber cone, complete with the feet. Who says this is a bad costume?? ;)

I would have LOVED it if my mom had been cool enough to be familiar with the Coneheads.

I’m actually more interested in finding out about this envy-inducing, phenomenal bougie family and their Never Ending Story costumes the original poster loathes with great passion.
Ironic that even their mention steals whatever thunder this picture with a short but sweet commentary could have had.

  19. Aldo from Sydney, Australia says:

Great commentary! Why does the guy’s conehead look authentic? Things that make you go hmmm.

  20. CamdensGramps says:

The kid on the left isn’t a conehead. He is a domer.

  21. Bets says:

Aw, don’t be so hard on your Mom. Look what she had to work with.

I love the coneheads. that was back when SNL was funny. It would be fun to dress up as them for any occasion. Don’t forget the princess phones.

I love the look on the older kid’s face. He’s searching desperately for an exit.

uhh, “cone of SHAME,” not “cone of silence.”

    • Ed Gruberman says:

The Cone of Silence is from Get Smart, the 1960′s tv show, a program I like to think the Coneheads would enjoy.
