Behind The Awkwardness: Swiss Misters
April 13th, 2012
“Me with my two brothers in 1968. We just moved to Switzerland where my father got a good job with a much better salary than before. So we were showing off a new bicycle, a new scooter, new clothes, and my mother’s impeccable sense of fashion.”

I actually really like this picture. It’s kind of artistic. Nice little space you had up there.
BORN TO BE WILD ! This is the rarely seen picture that inspired the hit song.
Great Photo
When did Switzerland get palm trees? Isn’t that one of the left?
in Ticino (Southern Switzerland) we have a fairly warm weather, Palm trees are fairly common. ALso Geneva ain’t so cold and you can see some in French-Switzerland too
as a resident of Lake Zürich, I have two in my garden but have to cover ‘em up in winter or else they’d get frozen.
Where do you see the palm tree? But yes. Switzerland does have palm trees. You can seem them along Lake Geneva, especially in Montreux and Vevey.
This picture is too great to be awkward. Gautier, you’ll have to try harder!
I like it. Looks like a great album cover!
Oh my! It looks like a horror movie!
still … lookin like a BOSS! ^_^
Looks like a photo op for an Indie band.
I like this picture. Scooter boy looks like he is ready to throw down!
I had to double-take before I realized that they weren’t girls, I mistook the shorts for skirts.
Your mom must have seen that scene in The Sound of Music where they made the clothing out of curtains.
I might be weird, but I actually like this photo
Looks like those were good times for this family, in spite of the outfits.
Beastie Boys as little kids.
Best reply ever!!!
See what happens when you hire a nanny that can sew?
Awkward, maybe a little…but I love it. I think you are adorable, and your bike and scooter are fabulous.
Do, a deer, a female deer, Ra, a drop of golden sun……………
So long, farewell, auf wiedersen adieu
I’m sure lots of nice, old, swiss ladies thought these three were just adorable out on the street
Awkward? Yes, but also awesome. I love these little glimpses into the past.
I guess Mom ran out of money before buying matching socks.
Yes that’s a shame, I though doctoring the socks with Photoshop but this will have been unethical
Those outfits are definitely not neutral colors.
Switzerland? Are you sure? With all that plaid, I would have guessed Scotland!
Plaid. That’s what happens when you travel at ludicrous speed, right?
Just… Wow… I think I shall dream of matching check fabrics tonight…
Ah Europe! Where the boys ride girl bikes and you can ride a scooter like a gagsta.
As we say in the South “Bless your hearts”.
Argh!!
There are not enough words, either in English, German, or French, to describe the pure awesomeness of this picture.
Our mother dressed my twin sister and me in matching clothes every day of our lives until we were 8 years old.
In the very same color? My sis and I were matchy-matchy too, but t least I got blue and my sis got red or pink (other family members continued sending us gifts in those colors through our teens, much to her chagrin. I felt so lucky to have been the blue twin!) We had a very long hair as little girls and I cut my own hair in a bob when I was 10 in an act of rebellion against the matching outfits!
Switzerland you say? I would have sworn it was Austria since the Sound of Music theme popped into my head when I saw this.
The hills are alive…
I forgot Marta.
Where are Liesl and Brigitta?
Who wears short shorts? We wear short shorts!
lol!
