Goosebumps - Behind The Awkwardness

“One year in elementary school, we were given the option of taking a hobby photo in addition to our regular picture.  My parents suggested I do a soccer photo or even one with my clarinet but I insisted on Goosebumps, explaining that the clarinet one would be too dorky.  I’ve never actually read the book I’m holding and out of the 50 or so titles I collected in the series, I only read about 5.  None of those 5 were the book I won a city-wide poster contest for in sixth grade; I just liked drawing wolves.  I guess the judges never read them either.”

I think that he grew up to continue his love of the horror genre….his Harry Potter glasses give us a hint of what he will read in future!!

Aren’t you relieved you didn’t choose something dorky? lol

My parents allowed me to get ONE Goosebumps book. Welcome to Camp Nightmare. I read that baby over and over until the cover fell off.

I also watched the T.V. show.

My parents didn’t understand my fascination with horror, since I loved horror movies and collected Ghost Stories books too.

I think this is so cute! My sister LOVED goosebumps. She even went as a giant Goosebumps book for halloween, my dad made huge maps for a living so he blew up the front and back cover and glued it to a box. I am sure if she’d been given the option of having a hobby picture, this might have been it.

Not awkward, really sweet! I love the fact that you wanted your portrait to include a Goosebumps book. :-)

Something to do with Tudor Manor or something. Or Tudor Tower? Terror Tower? I HAD THIS BOOK! I want to remember the title soooooooooooooooooooo badly. Please if anyone can remember, do please enlighten.

My favourite was the one where the disembodied hands played pianos… there was a twist to that one somehow. Can’t remember. What a thing these books were- we even had them in New Zealand : P
