K.O. - Behind The Awkwardness

“This is my older sister (by 12 years) and my father. She got boxing gloves for Christmas and thought it would be a good idea to challenge our father. From the picture, you can tell, it wasn’t such a good idea.”

Always frugal, Dad realized the only way he he could escape paying for braces for Belly’s crooked smile was to take a more aggressive approach to the problem.

Ahh the 70’s… A simpler time when a man still enjoyed the right to coldcock his daughter.

This pic is funny. I just came to check out the comments to see the CPS people have a field day with it. I am so surprised and shocked that they let this one go! Happy days! Great surprise!

Bocing gloves, or any other punching devices are never a good choice for xmas. We have a story in our family from the year the original soccer boppers hit the market. Adults + soccer boppers result in popped soccer boppers and black eyes.

  15. Lestatdelc says:

This is mislabeled as a Christmas wish-list. This was a Festivius airing of the grievances moment Polaroid captured for reminiscing.

  16. Tiffani says:

This is quite possibly the funniest family photo ever. I totally had this happen except I boxed my older brother (by 7 years) to the ground. I think I might have been 9. God, I wish there was a photo commemorating that moment. I’d blow it up to poster size and insist my mom hang in her house.

  17. Candace says:

I hope she remembers this time when she is picking out his nursing home.

Back in the 70’s, my friend’s younger sister was very pretty but very tough. When I was 14 and she was 13 she challenged me to a boxing match in their kitchen. It was not pretty, I got a bloody nose (but sometime later I got a kiss)

Danielle is it safe to assume you and your sister never challenged Dad to a hockey game?

  25. Kendra says:

Never again she did she give Dad “the finger”, even when wearing gloves.

  26. Danielle says:

Both of my sisters received the boxing gloves for Christmas. They asked for them. This picture was taken in 1972, and at the time, my Uncles also lived with us. My sisters wanted the gloves so they could spar with our Uncles. My sister wasn’t hurt at all. Dad wasn’t *swinging* at her, he just pushed her over, and she went down with that wicked awesome look on her face. My Dad was AWESOME.
