Behind The Awkwardness

Doing The Dinosaur

“My niece, in the photo, has a huge fixation with dinosaurs. She takes this one EVERYWHERE she goes (except school because they won’t allow it at the school & it won’t fit in her cubby). Her father, in pic, took her to the father/daughter dance and Choppers came along too!

Joy & Pain

‘Im the sorry looking one in this photo, along with my two younger bothers and mom. First Christmas after my parents divorced, and I probably didn’t get the legos I was hoping for. Merry Christmas!”

Santa Claws

“The memories around this pic are fuzzy, I suspect that I have blocked out Santa trying to lift my shirt and/or pinch my nipple. If I had to guess, I was probably around four years old (1979). Clearly, I am horrified by the look on my face.”

Fish Fingers

“Here’s my Dad. Moments before this photo was taken, he was stood proudly showing off his catch.”

Flu Shot

“Our family went for flu shots. Our 13 year old daughter just couldn’t handle the idea of getting a shot, not before, during or after. We decided to take a picture after our vaccination. She just wouldn’t stop crying.”

Sweater Vest

“This is my husband Drew, his grandmother would make him a sweater vest every year. Obviously He really loved his grandmother!”

Picture Perfect

“Our middle child was terrified of having her picture taken so this attempt to get a portrait of all 3 kids utterly failed.”

Stone Cold

“That’s me in the middle (age 18). There’s apparently a Christmas tree behind me. That’s my brother (15) and my sister (12). It was not a good Christmas Day. It was not a good Christmas Day at all. I definitely remember our mother taking this photo. And I definitely remember that all of us were determined to not smile. No. Matter. What.”

Lapmom

“At Christmas last year (2013), my younger sister was up from Florida (a not so common occurrence for the holidays) so we were trying to get some good pictures of the four siblings together. At some point we wanted to include our Mom in a picture, but since there really wasn’t enough room on the couch for her to sit with us, we tried this pose for fun. My wife was taking the picture and she was noticing that some of us were squinting. So she told everyone to open their eyes wide. Hence these expressions.”

Oh Brother Where Art Thou

“Me and my bro recreating childhood photos for my parents 46th (I know – random…) wedding anniversary – presented last week – they loved it!”
