Recreating The Awkwardness

“My sister, cousin, and I grew up together and our parents were always taking pictures of us doing weird stuff.  We have no idea why my cousin is in the scary clown make-up, who did it, or why she is just holding that apple.  The hardest part of the re-creation was my sister – who is obviously no longer a baby.  She wore a flesh-colored spandex suit and an adult diaper.  She couldn’t get her feet up by her face though, so we cropped out most of her body.”

Rain Check

After an 18 month engagement we finally celebrated our wedding day, albeit in rainy conditions. Our photographer suggested a shot with umbrellas and told our bridesmaids and groomsmen to act as if they were talking amongst themselves. Eoin clearly did not buy in to this and was unable to hide his displeasure.  Instead of making an excuse or apologising for his grimace, when asked about this photo he replied with the following “the guy on the right can’t have said something that funny and some of the bridesmaids clearly aren’t talking to anyone at all”. We’re so glad that Eoin was a part of our special day.

Jaws

“This is my brother. My older siblings took him down to the lake at our old cabin. He’s only in about a foot of water, but after telling him what the sign said and putting the fear of Jaws in him, they left him hanging for a photo opp…my 81 year old mom still gets mad when she sees this and defends herself of any prior knowledge of them taking him out for this picture.”

Baldies

“The boys wanted a haircut just like dad and grandpa. Mom just shook her head.”

Choker

“Here is me, about 8 or 9 years old, in a photo booth with my baby brother. The camera timer was almost up, and as I was too little to hold him up, I had to grab him by the throat to make sure he was looking at the camera.”

Recurring Themes

“My daughter’s teacher in kindergarten helped her write this little note for me for Mother’s Day. Do you notice a recurring theme? I suppose I should be flattered that she thought I only looked half my age!”

Bows Of Farley

“We found this photo and discovered that my brother was a dead ringer for baby Chris Farley.”

The Engagement Pics

This was 2004 – and these were my senior pictures. The two boys are my best friends since we were 3 and I thought it would be a great way to memorialize our friendship. Instead they all looked like really bad polyamourous engagement pictures, complete with us holding hands and skipping off into the sunset. Needless to say, my parents didn’t purchase those. We still refer to these as “The Engagement Pics”.

I Swear It’s Patrick From Sponge Bob

“Poor kid put his shirt for picture day in the wash… but he got up to late and didn’t have time to dry it. So he had to pick a different shirt… I swear that is just Patrick’s head from Sponge Bob. Oh, dear.”

The Kiss and I

“My parents took me and my sis to Paris. I was clearly not impressed. Their marriage is still awesome, 30 years strong! Love you two.”
