Directory Assistance

“This is myself, my partner, Alison and our then five-year-old son, Theo. our church decided to make a pictorial directory, and this is our entry. Theo was pissed at us about something. Yet, he agreed to participate in the photo. Who says lesbians make unfit parents?”

Hand To Neck

“My bestie and I were excited to finally have a cute picture together, until we noticed my son’s hand dangling from my neck like a growth.”

Team Tums

“This is my Mom and her two sisters when they were all flight attendants, apparently doing some pro bono advertising for Tums––and possibly a food review for the in-flight meal at the same time.”

The Patriot

“This is my family’s one and only professionally taken portrait. I remember being so angry my mom made me wear the uniform from my Fife and Drum Marching Band (for which I also had no love). The photo sessions were taken at my grammar school so the entire school was able to partake in my misery. I am smiling though. Somehow.”

The Candy Memo

“My Mom worked at City Hall in 1988. This is how her boss let her know he wanted candy.”

Resistance Movement

“This is what happens when I try to capture a family picture! Nobody cooperates and my mother and my husband annoy each other! My mom just wanted a kiss from her favorite son-in-law and as usual he was very resistant!”

Stacked

“My Mom booked this photo shoot. I was 12 and my sister was 15. We have no idea why the photographer thought laying in a pile on my Dad would make a good photo. And how did Mom get out of it? She must have known then how ridiculous it would look. Moms know everything.”

Mom, By Salvador Dali

“A surrealistic photo of my Mom and some dude, taken somewhere in Florida in 1957. Beyond that, your guess is as good as mine.”

My Big Sleeves

“As a well-endowed woman, I was concerned when my four-year-old drew this pic of me. It turns out those are my ‘sleeves.'”
