Garden Party
“I am the baby on the grass here. And contrary to what it looks like, I was sleeping. Mom had brought me home from the hospital in Mobile, Alabama back in 1967 (the only girl) and Dad wanted to get us all in a photo. Dad staged that ghastly floral placement but he ended up owning a very successful landscaping company for over three decades so he CLEARLY stepped up his game.”

Blinding Lights
“Our school had mid year friend group pics called ‘highlights.’ The highlight was a Venetian blind that had a color light behind you and you could choose your groups color. My sister and I were not popular so we decided to do the pic together because the colored Venetian backdrop was the coolest ever. Our brother was in basic training in the army at this time so we were EXTRA patriotic as a family and the Gulf War was happening. I left the house with the most epic bang curl your life has ever seen. I was 100% sure people would be passing notes about how I should pursue a career in cosmetology. We chose RED for our Venetian color because WE ARE FIRE. They hand the pics back in class weeks later and MY HEART SANK. It sank because the glorious bangs I had worked a full hour on and half a can of Aquanet had called flat on one side and captured my worst hair moment.”

Glamour Girls Day
“My mom thought it would be nice to take my sister and I for a girl’s day at the local glamour shots. She didn’t always have the best ideas. Honestly, topless with a pink boa was not what my sister and I had in mind. But she genuinely thought this was pretty and proceeded to hang it in our family home for all to see for years. Love ya mom.”

“When we were kids my mom was a licensed wildlife rehabilitator at our old farm in Illinois. So let the raccoon party commence!”

Casual Christmas
“My dad notoriously has never worn pajamas. My mom struggled to get him to wear a robe, too. Christmas mornings in the 80s he would eventually throw something on when my grandparents knocked on the door. Fortunately for us, he started putting pants on a few years ago for Christmas morning. Because now he gets cold.”

“Our family vacation at Long Beach Island, NJ and we wanted a nice family photo. Our daughter wasn’t in the mood so we were swinging her around to cheer her up.”
