Headstrong

“This is a photo of my daughter Kate holding Petunia with a hamster ball stuck on her head. My daughter got ths cute hamster as a birthday present. It came with a cage, food, water bottle etc, and this ball. We put the hamster in it to use it then we washed it and put it away. It must have dropped on the ground because the next thing I hear is something hitting the walls of our hall. There is Petunia with her head jammed in the ball wildly running around trying to get it off. It had the hamster’s smell still in it and she is one curious pug…Thank God the thing had air holes!”

Smile

“Just after a cold March 2006 blizzard on our acreage in Remsen, Iowa, I put scarfs on my horses Flash, Piper & Magic. They then were looking at me with my camera & Piper smiled real big! Guess she’s glad for her home, friends, & winter scarfs!”

Petpourri

“This is a photo of my family and its menagerie (ferret, snake, cat, dog) circa 1985. Less than a year later, we added a pig to the mix, and our childhood also included at various points a goat, raccoons, iguanas, chameleons, ponies, mice, rats, too many small lizards to count and at least one bird that was killed by a ferret.”

Behind The Awkwardness: Strange Encounter

“This picture is of my ancestor. My family would go visit Montana from Minnesota. The Montana family was much more tough than the Minnesota family including the boy in this picture. He was a tough little kid until he came around the corner and met Cindy the family monkey.”

Behind The Awkwardness: Night Terror

“It was late at night and my Sun Conure was sleeping in his fuzzy hut as usual. I thought it would be cute to get a shot of him peeking out of it, but when you put a large scary flashing object in a birds cage in the middle of the night, I guess it’s pretty terrifying.”

Behind The Awkwardness: Fried Tofu

“A photo of my cat, Tofu. She doesn’t like cold weather much. In winter, after we cook dinner, she sometimes curls up in the frying pan because of the warmth.”

Saturday Night Special: The Weathervane

“Bennie, we are sure, grows thumbs when we leave him. He has separation anxiety and he hates being left alone so he managed to push open a window on the second floor and scale up to the peak of the third floor. He was looking for his “people!”

Seacup

“My in-laws live on a farm in central Virginia. One particular afternoon I wanted to get some photos of my father-in-law. Naturally he was outside tending to his horses. This horse needed some shots and we all know horses don’t comply when they see the ‘needle.'”
