Eyes Wide Open

“This is a picture of my brother. The photographer was trying to get him to look at the camera and he snapped his fingers and accidentally scared my brother- perfect timing!”

In Your Face

“This is our first family portrait. A friend thought it was staged but not at all. After about 10 minutes of taking pictures it was getting pretty hard to wrangle my son. I actually love this photo the most because it really captures the family dynamic well.”

Just Say Yes

“This sign was hanging in my aunt and uncle’s garage when they bought their house and for some reason nobody realized the DRUGS sign was the backdrop for a children’s birthday celebration picture.”

Christmas Jazz Hand

“The infamous Christmas photo shoot of 1984.  Dad’s short-shorts and high socks highlighted his fashion-forward attitude and athleticism; my sister’s cheerleading perfection revealed her vow to never look bad in any photo- ever, and my single jazz hand stance complete this Awkward Family Christmas Card from over 30 years ago.”

The Spirit Of Taking

“This is a photo of my younger sister and I on Christmas in 1996. I’m the one with the triumphant look on my face holding the cards and mashing my hand in my sister’s face. I love this picture because it pretty much sums up the relationship I have with my sister. It also tells you a lot about my family… like the fact that my parents took a picture of the situation before pulling me off of my sister.”

Waiting To Exhale

“1978. I was sporting a Jimmy Connors haircut. I’ve filled out just a bit since then…”

Gold Digger

“Myself, circa 1990. Apparently the photographer gave the print to my mother for free.”

Little Darth

“My family was asked to bring their favorite item to a Unitarian church photoshoot. I brought a flip phone, my father a guitar, and my 8-year-old brother his Darth Vader mask. He refused to take the photo without it.”

Worst Day Of Our Life

“My sister and I thought it might be a good idea to have our kids’ photos taken as a Christmas present for my mom.  With two hungry, tired newborn babies and a bored 3 year old, it was quite possibly the worst day of our lives.  This was the best pic we could get of all three of them.”

All In The Family

“The year was 1990. This was NOT my prom date. It just so happened my brother also attended the prom so we had a picture taken together.”
