Oh, early ’90s…how cruel you were to the eyes. I bet he drove an Iroc.
Also, we know that’s not late ’80s because they’re not wearing acid-washed jeans, so that’s something to be thankful for.
Ice Ice maybe….. but again, I see a little Dylan and Brenda here. This looks like it could have been taken the first season of 90210. She was kinda dorky then, and Dylan was soooo in love! I am getting soooooooooo old:) Why do I remember such things?
I think they’re homemade. Either way, it’s just the way the sleeve pattern piece was laid down on the fabric. They weren’t put in identical places. It’s still creepy, though.
ha, my boyfriend in high school refused to get our picture taken together unless we dressed the same. Despite the fact ‘everyone’ did it I could tell it looked dumb.
is there some point in time (the 80s) when this was considered a good idea?
but in high school!? i thought that didnt happen until well into retirement when its just easier to buy the same souvenior t-shirts
Does the title refer to the ice cube pattern on the sweatshirts…or HIM? I think that really is Vanilla Ice, age 18! Wow, one from the vaults. What a find.
Her sweatshirt is different. Look on the sleeve. They both have the line of squares going down, but the line of squares going across are in different places. His is further down, and hers is further up. His must be a bigger size…

Is this seriously an engagement picture? They’re like, 10.
My goodness, I miss the early 90′s.
From the lesser known sequel, “Ferris Bueller’s Matching Wardrobe”.
Where are they now? Well, he’s wearing the ear-rings THESE days!
between these two and the denim twins, i dont know which one is more awkward. too bad someone didnt photoshop them all together…
bet they met while shopping for those shirts and it was love at first site…love me, love my shirt!
you those pant legs are tucked and rolled, with slouchy socks and hi top Reeboks on!!!
oops you *know* those pant legs
Exactly!
I think they purchased the sweatshirts at the Seaside Heights boardwalk…
trueee.
You just gotta love the 80′s!
At least he’s cute and can carry it off . . .
Check out the matching outfits while the DJ revolves it.
Hey yo Stop! Hesitate and Listen! Awkward is back with a whole new edition!
Anything less than the best is a felony.
WIN!!
You nailed it, Mat. These rad dudes have certainly gotten down with their bad selves! They be da bomb, doncha know.
HAHHHAHAH….that was awesome!
I’m diggin’ the term “matchy-matchy” now.
Dude your recollection of lyrics is not too impressive.
I’d like to think that’s a slap bracelet on her right wrist…just to complete the picture of late ’80s-early 90′s fashion faux pas.
I think it’s a Swatch, actually. Which would still fit in nicely with your late ’80s-early 90’s fashion faux pas theme.
Or… It’s a Swatch Watch.
Oh my gosh. I had forgotten about the slap braclet fad. Thanks for the memories.
synchronize swatches!
Nothing says true love like matching sweatshirts and hair.
Why? Just why? Can someone answer that simple question?

Gotta love the 80s. They knew what fun really was! xD
matching sweatshirts = true love, right? Right???
I’m sure they’re still together.
I think they’re homemade. Either way, it’s just the way the sleeve pattern piece was laid down on the fabric. They weren’t put in identical places. It’s still creepy, though.
Word to your mutha!
So is it a male or female shirt?
Haha.
Either! That’s the beauty of it!
It’s so nice to get a picture of the twins together again!
The ’89 5.0 Rag Top is waiting outside the photo studio!
I wonder if they bought enough material to have shirts made up for any future kids?
No, their children will be dressed in bacon suits.
Snort!
best comment ever!
I have a sneaking suspicion that they have matching underwear too…
I suddenly have this overwhelming urge to play Tetris
You win best comment! That’s awesome!

“Honey, I can’t find my blue shirt with the squares.”
“That’s OK, sweetie, you can just wear mine.”
why would anyone in their right mind have TWO of them?
For that matter, would anyone in their right mind own ONE of them?
Very “Saved by the Bell”!
Totally!!!
I wonder if they are wearing matching white high top tennis shoes??
I have no doubt we are missing out on their LA Gear action.
Oh Zing! Too true.
They’re so excited, they just can’t hide it.
Hahaha… I just snorted beer up my nose…
F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S!!!!!
hehehehe matchy-matchy…. havn’t heard that one since clothing fights with my sis when we were little… :]
Very attractive couple-I am sure it sounded like a good idea initially…
Engagement Photo??!! He’s wearing a wedding ring…
I think someone lost a bet, and had to wear matching clothes… and a hateful aunt picked out the outfits…
Have you got a better explanation?
Taking on the brangelina’s and benifer’s of the world. If we stand real close together in matching attire, no one will notice we’re 2 separate people…
I think they are made from a swimming pool liner.
LOL, My grandmother’s pool had that liner
I smell Sadie Hawkins
“We like to call these our ‘Triple-Word-Score’ shirts.”
Haha! Awesome. This made me laugh even more than the caption, which is also outstanding. Thanks for the laugh!
Aww I remember doing that kind of matchy-match thang with my BF. But I don’t remember doing it with such horrendously awkward shirts.
Oh I’m sure it would be just as bad – take a look back at the pictures!
Feel free to submit your pics!
I did the same thing with my now husband—- oh my!
I feel like these two are Old Navy Mannequins…from 1988.
Word to your mother.
LOL
Excellent!!!
Collaborate and listen.
Wait, I gotta stop first…
omg! i laughed so hard at this i almost shot my lunch out of my nose and onto my screen!
haha i almost peed myself when i read that.
Rockin’ “awkward” like a vandal…
Does the title refer to the ice cube pattern on the sweatshirts…or HIM? I think that really is Vanilla Ice, age 18! Wow, one from the vaults. What a find.
Their matchy-matchy is killing my brain like a poisonous mushroom.
nice!
BEST COMMENT!! and you know what they say….Anything less than the best is a felony.
deadly.
Win!
can you believe they were late for this photo after getting their shirts mixed up
LOL…..I like that.
Her sweatshirt is different. Look on the sleeve. They both have the line of squares going down, but the line of squares going across are in different places. His is further down, and hers is further up. His must be a bigger size…
either that, or it’s one of those things where each shirt is slightly different, depending on how they cut the fabric
who cares u know the material is off the the same bolt of material
Uh yeah, that’s what makes this pic awkward!
you forgot the collar… the collars are different too…
wow…you must be really good at “finding waldo”
That is to accommodate the compound bow.
Picky, picky…sheesh.
Uhhhhhhhhh…………..yeah.
yeah, you’re right, they’re not matching at all….
you forgot to mention the neckline
Oh Whew! That makes it better. Would have been embarrassing otherwise!
Breaking out the microscope, are we? LOL!!!
LOL!!! The comment about the shirt reminder me of Vanilla Ice’s description of how his song is differnt than the under Pressure song.
dun dun dun dada dun dun… Don’t need a microscope to see that difference.
‘zactly!
Good one!
Good reference! That’s true.
the collars are exactly the same.
Marnie, is that you?
Thank you, Marney.
Pat & Pat
Thanks…all over my keyboard.
