We know this is going to sound strange, but the cactus wanted the picture with him.
(submitted by Shane)
“and they say I look like a big prick” the cactus said.
That cute little cactus made an impression on Uncle Cecil…..actually it made thousands of impressions.
I think he looks like Joe Bob Briggs of Monstervision fame!
“Awww, Endora, did you have to turn Sam into a cactus? Again?”
THUNDERCATS ARE GO.
He’s Quentin Tarantino
This was going to be the last time she posed next to him, dressed in a tubular wool-knit burkha
No really I am not suggesting anything. Are you sure you don’t want to stop by my house for a drink or something?
I thought it was Pat Buchanan for a second ….
Is that “Cousin It” with dreadlocks?
Oh, how this caption makes me happy . . .
Honey, he just followed me home. Can I keep him?
He actually manages to make the cactus look uncomfortable. Impressive.
looks like it could be a still from a tarentino movie.
I think that’s my Uncle Zeke.
I just realized this is the youngest child of the “Cactii Family”… he got lost and was found by this kind man wandering through the desert… no wonder why their photo is so awkward ( http://awkwardfamilyphotos.com/2009/06/30/going-green/ )… they missed the little one!!
I would so like to photoshop some little feet on the cactus.
Looks like a Sid & Marty Croft production!
love this picture…all tourists can relate.
I love how the faded oval makes this kind of purple sci-fi light around man and cactus….it gives the whole picture a sort of Doctor Who feel.
Strange — I was making the same connection, to Dr. Who, because the bottom edge of the cactus sure looks like one of the bargain basement costumes from the original series. There’s at least half an inch between the plant and the ground, and I think I see a Dalek’s wheels under there….
Good move on his part not doing an arm-around pose.
I wouldn’t poke fun of the cactus. It’s a bit prickly.
So Cousin It ended up moving to the desert and now has a whole new look.
I totally see why his hands are placed so strategically … those cactus spikes look painful!
If it was love he would hug Cousin It.
Clark Griswold and family pulled the family truckster over for a moment to snap a photo of Uncle Eddie and the gigantic cactus.
great reference! i love all those movies!
Sometimes, love doesn’t need an explanation…
You know you are right. Who are we to judge “love!”
Actually, this photo is the first of two… in the second picture he was hugging the cactus… as you can imagine, it didn’t go well for neither the cactus nor the man.
Bob wanted one last picture with his BFF on the final day of Summer Camp at Area 51.
Can I just say that this caption made me LOL?
it must be awkward for those other plants who were caught in picture
I think the cactus is looking at me!
Yes, the eyes follow you while you move around the room.
I don’t see where anybody said it was an aloe vera
Thank you! I was wondering that myself.
I was thinking the same thing Wendy!
I was just thinking the same thing Wendy. I’ve spent more time looking for the aloe vera reference than i have looking at the pic!
haha, i thought that same thing and then i realized they were trying to make a joke
emphasis on trying
Actually, the picture originally had an awkward title with “aloe vera” in it. AFP apparently changed the title due to realizing a mistake in identifying the plant (which of course made the plant just feel that much more awkward).
Now I feel awkward, thanks AFP….I’m going to go take a bath with some snakes, then stuff cats in my robe pockets….
Lonely I’m Mr Lonely,
I have nobody (but this cactus),
For my owwnnn
I’m so lonely, I’m Mr. Lonely
I have nobody (but this cactus),
For my owwnnn
I’m so lonely…
Yes, a barrel cactus it is! Amazing.
An old photo.
Actually, kinda cool.
“Hey Bob, take a picture of me with the cactus!”
“Why would you wanna t-”
“JUST TAKE THE DAMN PICTURE, BOB!!!!!”
“Watch out for those man-eatin’ jackrabbits…and that killer cacti…heeeey duuuuuude.”
Hahahahahahah!!!! Best one yet!!
I’ve never seen a picture with a cactus in it that was NOT awkward.
I’ve taken many photos next to cacti…all awkward. Which is exactly the point.
Until you submit the photo(s), it didn’t happen
Yeah! What she said! Prove it! Prove it! Prove it!
Which one’s pricklier?
True story: on a road trip from NorCal to New Orleans, I insisted my brother and I both pose next to a giant Saguaro cactus at a gas station in Arizona. I understand this man’s need to take a photo next to a cactus. It’s all about flirting with danger…
You went to New Orleans by way of Arizona?
Sometimes one takes the southern route through SoCal, AZ, NM, TX, then to LA. Very popular during winter to avoid the snows on I-80.
As a matter of fact, the trip was in January. Thank you, Anon, for validating
my trip choice. Besides, my mom works at AAA! I got a map!
Is it just me, or does anyone else think that cactus looks a little…naughty?
My thoughts exactly!
I thought of that immediately when I first saw this photo.
This is why you don’t walk through the desert for too long. You start to see mirages.
Some sand can become a watery oasis…
A lizard can become an old shoe…
A cactus can become a family member with which you feel the need to take an awkward photo with….
This is an adorable little keepsake to show the folks back home. Them little cactus people are sure friendly.
You do know that’s not an Aloe Vera cacti don’t you?
I’m sure HE was sorely disappointed…
Awkward bonus: the sun-faded oval around the man and his cactus…which means it was framed.
Ah, so the cactus was framed! I figured it would never have consented willingly to pose in such an awkward picture.
Especially since there are no other cactus around and it not even in the ground.
I noticed that, too!! *smile* Glad to see I’m not the only one with sharp eyes!
Great catch…NOW, look at the not faded section to the right of the oval….another faded part of the photo…..SO, does that mean the picture was matted in one of those collage frames, BUT they did not cover up the extra part of the photo in the next photo space??? My mother-in-law can also ruin a nice collage frame with that kind of picture placement….
I think that is the aura these two projected.
…..and they never spoke of it again.
LOL! Good one.
You got right to the point there.
*facepalm* Why didn’t someone warn me there would be puns?
That’s actually Cousin It wearing a hemp skull cap…
Haha, wow, that truly is a Cousin It cactus.
And looking better than a teenager while wearing it.
it’s a barrel cactus, not an aloe vera.
It looks more like a Saguaro.
Snoopy’s cousin Spike.
It cousin IT’S first buzz cut
Hence him being dressed up in the desert.
