I just realized this is the youngest child of the “Cactii Family”… he got lost and was found by this kind man wandering through the desert… no wonder why their photo is so awkward ( http://awkwardfamilyphotos.com/2009/06/30/going-green/ )… they missed the little one!!

I love how the faded oval makes this kind of purple sci-fi light around man and cactus….it gives the whole picture a sort of Doctor Who feel.
Strange — I was making the same connection, to Dr. Who, because the bottom edge of the cactus sure looks like one of the bargain basement costumes from the original series. There’s at least half an inch between the plant and the ground, and I think I see a Dalek’s wheels under there….

Actually, this photo is the first of two… in the second picture he was hugging the cactus… as you can imagine, it didn’t go well for neither the cactus nor the man.

Actually, the picture originally had an awkward title with “aloe vera” in it. AFP apparently changed the title due to realizing a mistake in identifying the plant (which of course made the plant just feel that much more awkward).
Now I feel awkward, thanks AFP….I’m going to go take a bath with some snakes, then stuff cats in my robe pockets….

True story: on a road trip from NorCal to New Orleans, I insisted my brother and I both pose next to a giant Saguaro cactus at a gas station in Arizona. I understand this man’s need to take a photo next to a cactus. It’s all about flirting with danger…

Sometimes one takes the southern route through SoCal, AZ, NM, TX, then to LA. Very popular during winter to avoid the snows on I-80.

I thought of that immediately when I first saw this photo.
This is why you don’t walk through the desert for too long. You start to see mirages.
Some sand can become a watery oasis…
A lizard can become an old shoe…
A cactus can become a family member with which you feel the need to take an awkward photo with….
This is an adorable little keepsake to show the folks back home. Them little cactus people are sure friendly.

Great catch…NOW, look at the not faded section to the right of the oval….another faded part of the photo…..SO, does that mean the picture was matted in one of those collage frames, BUT they did not cover up the extra part of the photo in the next photo space??? My mother-in-law can also ruin a nice collage frame with that kind of picture placement….
I think that is the aura these two projected.
