Potty Training - Dad

“My dad, the amateur photographer and ever the cheese-ball, decided that this would be a very clever and humorous setting for our annual family photo. We actually sent this out to friends and family that year.”

  2. Jackie says:

    But his pants are on…

  3. Monicabee says:

    The first myspace bathroom pic!

  4. Joyful says:

Not funny! I have a 4 year old that refuses to be potty-trained! This does NOT give me hope!

    • Spazmatazz says:

Oh Joyful… there is always hope! If it’s a boy, float a cheerio in the bowl and tell him to aim for it… Boy or girl, bribe with sticker charts, gummy bears, or my personal favorite, bubbles. Especially because they are four, and old enough to blow them themselves. You can set the bubbles aside, and blow them yourself after YOU go to the bathroom. Don’t let your four year old touch them, “I get to blow bubbles because I go to the bathroom in the toilet.” I hope that helps. Or is entertaining to anyone else reading this.

I LOVE the varying expressions here, especially the girl in red on the left.

Good ideas, Spazmatazz! I am potty training my 2.5-YO son and I never thought AFP would be the place to find helpful potty training advice. LOL!! Just shows how much this dang site is a part of my life now…

        • MR says:

Boys seem to be more difficult to potty train. My daughter was potty trained around 1 1/2 (yes, really, as in she went herself, not when I told her to go)…And that was because she wanted ruffly “rumba” undies…(the type with tons of lace on the back side). I told her I would not buy her any until she was potty trained, then two days later, never an accident again, even at night!
My boys on the other hand were nightmares. Well, the 2 oldest were…They had issues way past toddler years, and divorce and the ex telling them it was funny to wet did not help issues. My 3rd boy wasn’t so bad though. He was trained just over 2, but again, he wanted cool underwear (which didn’t work with his older brothers).

  5. Rich says:

So that is what Erik Estrada did before CHIPs.

Erik Estrada’s brother just KNEW back in 1979 that there would someday be a home for a family picture like this.

  15. Becca says:

That is probably one of the most awkward pictures I have ever seen…..look at the way they are looking down!! 0.om Especially the two older girls…

  16. Cassie says:

    They’re so proud!!

  17. DMG says:

    This is clearly staged.

The only thing I don’t get is how these people knew 30 years ago that they should pose for a website that would be built years later on the internets so we could enjoy their odd behavior.

  18. Peter says:

I love this photo, but I have two questions:
    A) Why is the lid up on the toilet?
    B) Why is daughter offering dad the soap?
I won’t go into why is this photo being taken in the bathroom, and why is everybody looking so surprised while dad is looking so pleased with himself.

  19. Peyton says:

George was never one to be caught with his pants down.

  20. iLOLd says:

The family that poos together, stays together.

  41. cowgirl says:

I don’t get it… were the kids amazed that he was now potty trained, or the fact that he was able to sit there with a smile on his face, fully clothed while having his picture taken by the Olan Mills team?

  42. Whoa says:

    Man Cave, circa 1972

  43. songbirdcindi says:

OMG – is that George Clooney?!

  44. david t says:

I feel like this has a lot more to do with the fact that he is sitting down to do his business (as opposed to standing), and their are 5 women standing in the room.

  45. Natty says:

Wow…I would REALLY like to know the backstory on this one!!! Tres, care to explain? 🙂

  46. Heather Q. says:

There are no words. Except words of gratitude that nothing was photoshopped into the picture as a “focal point”.
