Behind The Awkwardness: You’ll Shoot Your Eye Out, Kid
November 9th, 2009
“This is my brother and I. I was around nine and he is about 6. Pink shirts and suspenders really? I look like a cross between Ralphie from Christmas Story and a young Larry King.”

Our 1991 church picture has me in a pink shirt and navy blue suspenders (and hair that’s spiked a good 3 to 4 inches). In fact, we’re all dressed in navy blue and pink.
Aww, I think this is adorable!
yes you do !
“I have Roberta from Sioux Falls on line one…”
This one is GREAT! The caption makes the photo so imaginative!
Should have read the other posts. Act like you haven’t read any other “Proclaimers posts” either.
Another pair of glasses and you’ve got yourself the early Proclaimers.
“When you wear pink. Yeah I know I’m gonna be, I’m gonna be the boy to wear pink next to you! ”
“When you’re awkward. Yeah I know I’m gonna be, I’m gonna be the one who’s awkward along with you!”
Actually, I love this!
Clark Kent and Jimmy Olsen.
Honestly, I’ll totally dress my kids like that once I have some. Seriously, I think there’s a timeless cuteness in dressing little boys so…”properly”.
“I would walk 500 miles and a-I would walk 500 more…”
Too funny! I literally lol’d. Then lol’d some more.
Soo adorable! I just think they both look cute. Bet mom is still proud of this photo!
Portrait of The Proclaimers as a young band.
OMG! I thought I was the only one that listened to the Proclaimers in the USA! Totally fits. So many options for Jeremy to strive for as an adult SNL or making the soundtrack for Benny and Joon.
Lawyers! LAWYERS!
Alex Keaton had nothing on you, Jeremy!
I love the suspenders and aside from the pink and the glasses the thing I love most about this picture is that the boys look HAPPY and CONFIDENT nonetheless. Their smiles are infectious!!!!
Sweet hunch too!
The Ralphie/Larry King reference is so on the money.
…Maybe with a little Buzz from Home Alone thrown in there too.
You are a young Larry King and your brother is a young Larry Czonka (sp?)
I don’t know…he seems to be really working the pink pin stripes. I see all awkward, gawky 9 year old wearing them for the next fashion season
Larry King was young?
haha – I was thinking the same thing. LK is the kinda guy who you think came out looking old.
Great pic Jeremy. I love it!
They had _photography_ when Larry King was young?!?
Winner!
i think they are adorable! very dated picture, but cute.
You never realize how crooked your ears actually are until you get glasses.
I thought I was the only one with crooked ears! Thank you, Gail, for freeing me from my prison of shame!
Well, if it isn’t Smooth and Smooth, Jr.
He is so right!
Goofy and dated, but not really awkward.
I knew this site was where this photo belonged – I called it when I saw it on facebook! Glad you two can laugh about it now – if it wasn’t for this photo, I wouldn’t have remembered that you two looked like that.
Didn’t you also do commercials for Hershey’s Chocolate Syrup?
I love the glasses and the pink shirts. Quintessentially 80s!
Parents really should have intervened. I bet these guys are pretty handsome today
I think you’re both adorable …look at those smiles!! Hey…you were stylin’ with the times!
)
Although those glasses look a bit heavy…but that was the style too!
Thanx for sharing
Jeremy, I’m sorry, but you really do look like a cross between Ralphie and Larry King! Too funny…. Poor kid.
awesome. These are my cousins. Diggin those glasses Jer!
I bet those glasses have burnt some ants in their day.
Love the hair and the suspenders…. Thanks mom.
Meet the much lesser known Baldwin Brothers, Chas and Winston. They went on to fame and fortune in the seedy world of D&D..which was far more respected than Hollywood.
No, this is adorable, flat out adorable! So cute!
Shortly after this pic was taken, Al Franken stole his glasses.
Yes, my first thought is that he looks like a young Al Franken. The glasses are perfect!
Jeremy, couldn’t you find any larger glasses?
I had a pair like that, but in dark tortoiseshell. Of course, I was in my late 20s at the time.
Jeremy, you were a cutie.
I love hwo the olde rone is crouching, as if there was no way they could possibly raise the camera or make the little one stand up.
Ah brothers. I can see them attending the same univeristy in a few years. The older sibling vigoursly studying in the library on a late Sat. morning, after all the LSAT is just around the corner. Younger brother sleeping in his unkempt Frat House room until noon. They meet at the stadium for the football game together or maybe earlier for a tailgate party. By evening, the older brother is going to write two more pages on a paper he is working on and meet a nice, quite girl for a pizza or other dinner college kids can afford. The spikey haired younger brother is pulling the keg out of the pick-up truck and trying to find a somewhat clean t-shirt from his pile of dirty laundry.
Wow. You got all that from this picture? I have some ink blots I’d like you to look at.
Sounds like the beginning of something Elaine Benes would write for J. Peterman
It reminds me some characters from twin peaks =P
Hahah!
I already know I like Jeremy.
…was this before or after you murdered your parents for dressing you like this?
Are you sure this isn’t a childhood portrait of Niles and Frasier Crane!
Love the description! It is a strong man that can ridicule himself like this!
It is a gallant man indeed, who is willing to risk ridicule by posting his own awkward photo. Hats off to you , sir.
(R)amen to that. And he beat me to the punch on the Larry King/Ralphie thing. Exactly what I thought upon seeing the picture.
Well played, Jeremy.
“You’ll shoot your eye out” hahaha
They seem to be doing very well for having been born tragically without legs.
Huh?
What?
She’s right! Looks like two torsos hovering in the air.
I get it. Very funny!
I love this picture and your description is spot on! No wonder you grew up to have a healthy sense of humor!
Larry King could NEVER look this good ! Love the pic !
Perfect description.
What do you mean, I thought he had just turned 10?? lol
agreed!
Agreed! the Larry King Thing is spot on, especially with the nerdy look lol!
I just showed this to my husband without divulging the caption and he said, “he looks like a little Larry King!”. LOL!!
Or perhaps one of you is going to break out in a “Greed is Good” speech.
they laughed…but only until Jeremy and his brother started the most sucessful Fortune 500 rading firm in the county!
