I am going CRAZY reading the comments on this site about “Why is this so awkward? This is just a nice family on vacation…I think they are having a great time together. We shouldn’t make fun of their clothes/hair/glasses/teeth.” Really? You don’t understand why this stuff is awkward? Why are you even coming to this site then? I swear, I’d rather read a dozen freakin’ compound bow references than one more “why is this awkward” question. Can I get a second??
I agree. It is not extravagant awkwardness. But sometimes we have to honor the common vacation awkwardness that we all share. Perhaps too subtle for some?
I think most people just didn’t understand the caption, especially since they’re at Disney World. I think it’s a totally awkward picture, but I must have stared at it for 5 minutes straight wondering what specifically made it a dream for a pickpocket. Particularly since their shorts are so tight.

It’s not REAL dirt (is anything at Disney real?). It’s faux dirt to give it an “antique” look. Check Google images for “epcot morocco” and you’ll find a hundred copies of the same scene.
Freaky thing is I was to Epcot only once in my life, more than twenty years ago, and I did recognize it. I think it was the tourist family that triggered the memory–there’s no way it made sense that they were actually in Morocco and I’m afraid any pics of me and my family would have been quite similar.
If they were really in Morocco, ALL of them would have clothes on that covered their legs and arms, especially the woman and girl, due to cultural dictates…just think about it for a minute.
Okay. I am the original poster. I was in Morocco when this family of tourists asked me to use their camera to take their picture. I wanted to get their wallets, but the pants were too tight and I could not get to the wallets. So instead I snapped the photo and ran off with the camera. The photo was so AWKWARD I thought it fit this site.
I think the caption is just pointing out how obvious it is that these people are tourists…therefore will be targeted by criminals who will try to steal their wallets/purses.
Um, locals who have annual passes and go all the time? i live 10 minutes from CA Disneyland and not only our family has them but half the people i know. it’s no more “tourist-y” than going to a movie or the mall.
I think it’s more to the reference that her purse is just dangling and nobody’s paying attention to it. Not exactly pickpocketing but someone could have easily gotten away with something.
This is the way shorts SHOULD be. I vote we bring back short shorts. I mean what’s the point of shorts if they come down to your ankles? I’m talkin’ to you Anfernee Hardaway.

I disagree about the Epcot theories. The walls look too dirty to be Disney. No way the powers-that-be would allow that much dirt to show.
