Behind The Awkwardness
The Santa Standoff
“My son had a complete change of heart when it was his turn. No amount of pleading or bribing worked. I was pretty horrified at his behavior, but something told me to order the print and I’m so glad I did. P.S. The teacher/mom in me came made an appearance. After a serious conversation in the mall chairs, we got in line to do it again and he was a happy and willing participant!”

Lollipop Lollipop
“11:15PM. I’m brushing my teeth before bed and I hear a strange noise coming from Aaliyah’s room. I open her door and turn on the light to see her run towards her bed, lay down and pretended she was sleeping. Meanwhile there were about 20 unwrapped lollipops (don’t know how she got the bag) laying around her room, and one still in her hand (as she lay there ‘sleeping’). It was the funniest thing I’ve ever seen. The fake sleeping with evidence in her hand was priceless.”

Cruise Control
“This is my EPIC family on a cruise in 97′.. my sister is the clock work orange girl and my brother thought he was 2pac although, we grew up in the suburbs..(well he might still think he is straight outta Compton)… My mothers pants.. need I say more? God rest her soul… and we also found Waldo that day (aka my dad).. Not that I’m a saint in my tapered jeans. However, any time my husband questions my sanity.. I pull this bad boy out and am immediately forgiven, having hailed from such a troubled past, I’m not all that bad!!!!!”

The Grinch
“This is a photo of me and my three older siblings. Such a nice photo, until you see me in the bottom left. That is not okay!”

Mother Of The Year Award
“Mother of the Year award. Not only is my daughter faceplanting in the back there, my son is standing on top of our broken gate. No one was hurt in this awkward family moment.”

A Mighty Wind
It was crazy windy and this was the only day to take our yearly Christmas pictures that fit our busy schedule. My husband is trying to hold our 1 year old as he’s wiggling around kicking his legs and knocking our middle child in the head causing him to scream. I am trying to keep calm while I’m holding him with a half smile on my face. While our oldest son is waiting patiently for our family photographer to say, ‘Cheese!’ Needless to say, this picture did make it on the Christmas card and everyone loved it!

Living In The Pastels
“We actually were dressed like this regularly. Pastels were an everyday spring wardrobe necessity. Mom actually put a bowl on our heads to cut our hair for these pics.”

Send In The Clowns
“This is a picture of me and my cousins. My grandma used to sew us matching costumes every year for halloween. She decided it would be a good idea to take us to get professional pictures done in these matching clown costumes. When I asked her what she was thinking years later she replied, ‘I thought you would appreciate them someday.’ Thanks, Grandma, for the thoughts!”

American Revolution
“This is our ONLY professional family photo circa 1980. It was a fundraiser through my school. My mother made me wear my marching band outfit. It was humiliating and not only is the picture forever, it was witnessed by my entire grade school. (I love the pic now though!)”

The Force Awakens (Awkwardly)
“Have you ever had that horrible recurring dream where you are trick-or-treating but forgot to wear pants? In honor of the upcoming release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, I present this classic photo of me and my brother on Halloween, 1978. The joy of this photo is in the details. My brother’s little hand sticking out the top to try to hold the box up… My lack of pants (though I *am* wearing tights, I swear)… Couldn’t he have had a little less cardboard and given some to me? Also note that we needed to (incorrectly) label ourselves since no one knew what we were supposed to be — I wonder why. Sigh.”
