Family Portrait
Dapper In Denim
“A glorious photo of my partner and his family in 2002 at a church in Gurnee, IL. The reason why all are wearing denim seems to be lost to time.”

Waiting To Exhale
“1978. I was sporting a Jimmy Connors haircut. I’ve filled out just a bit since then…”

Little Darth
“My family was asked to bring their favorite item to a Unitarian church photoshoot. I brought a flip phone, my father a guitar, and my 8-year-old brother his Darth Vader mask. He refused to take the photo without it.”

The Big Dig
“This is my family. Maybe 1977. The beautiful backdrop of the golden sunset on wallpaper accentuates the glow of happiness on our faces. My little sister is clearly the champion. My dad was a part time photographer in the 70’s, and we took lots of posed family portraits. This one my sister found deep in the archives of old negatives. It never saw the light of day….until now.”

Everybody Do The Dinosaur
“Photo of my family and me (on the left) in the 80’s. No lie, this was a casual Saturday afternoon on our way to the mall! Just HaleyASaurus, MommyASaurus, and HeidiASaurus traveling around in our ‘Wish We Were A Dinosaur Family’ sweats!”

The Motel 5
“My Nana won a radio contest for a family portrait. The session ended up being held in a motel & Nana thought it would be a good idea to wear a strapless dress. Turns out that it looked she had no clothes and the girl in her lap (my aunt) has a devilish smile.”

Side Eye
“Over 60 years ago, my parents had a picture done professionally of my two older sisters and me. This was one of the ‘proofs’ they received. My two older sisters have now passed. I showed this to a friend who sent me one of your cards and suggested I send this to you. My middle sister had no idea why she had the ‘sideways’ eyes, but it has brought a lot of humor to our family for many years.”

Prairie Home Companions
“This is me when I was 2 1/2 yrs old and my sister was 5 yrs old. Our last name is really the Waltons and we loved to watch Little House on the Prairie as a family. Mom loved to sew and make matching outfits. This one by far was the most eye catching with the matching bonnets with the dresses.”

Thriller
“It was just your typical church directory picture from Olan Mills, until my son went to art school, enlarged it and superimposed Michael Jackson into it. This was featured in a school-wide Mother’s Day show with the title ‘My mother dated Michael Jackson.'”

Get Into The Groovy
“This was taken in the Fall of 1970. My dad was studying for a PhD in Theatre, so he was taking a costuming class. For some reason, he decided that it would be a good idea to make the family matching outfits. Apparently, I was the only one brave enough to show my true feelings.”
